Your Children

 Your Children

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Nasir al-Sa‘di (رحمه الله ) said:

“The people most deserving of your kindness and most entitled to your good treatment are your children, for they are trusts that Allah has placed with you. He has entrusted you with raising them in a righteous manner—nurturing both their bodies and their hearts.

Everything you do for them in this regard, whether small or great, is part of fulfilling your obligation and is among the best deeds that draw you closer to Allah. So strive in this and seek its reward from Allah.

Just as when you feed them, clothe them, and take care of their physical upbringing you are fulfilling a duty and are rewarded for it—then even more so when you nurture their hearts and their souls with beneficial knowledge, sound understanding, guiding them to noble character, and warning them against its opposites.”

STRENGTH IS NOT IN HARSHNESS

STRENGTH IS NOT IN HARSHNESS

Whoever has a despicable character, little dignity and no mercy then this will appear in his dealings with those who are weak. Rather, treating the weak unjustly is the way of the weak. If they truly had a strong, tough character, then they would not treat those deserving of mercy harshly. That is why whosoever controls himself when interacting (with the weak) then their excellence is evident.

GOOD TREATMENT OF OTHERS

GOOD TREATMENT OF OTHERS

Good manners with the people are comprised in connecting with those who have severed their ties with you by greeting and honouring them, praying and seeking forgiveness for them, and praising and visiting them. They also involve giving to those who have refused to give their knowledge, help, or money to you, and pardoning those who have wronged you by harming your person, wealth, or honour.

Whoever employs a man among

Abdul Malik ibn ‘Umayr (رضي الله عنه) reported:

👤Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) said:

“Whoever employs a man among his loved ones or relatives, employing him for no other reason besides that (no skill, no qualification, only the fact that he is a relative), then he has betrayed: Allah, His messenger (ﷺ) and the believers.

Parents Gain from Their Children’s Good Deeds, with or without Their Children Intending That

Parents Gain from Their Children’s Good Deeds, with or without Their Children Intending That

Shaikh Muḥammad Naṣir Al-Dīn Al-Albānī, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

We have a general principle that a child is from his father’s earnings . . . so whatever he does of righteous deeds is recorded for [his parents].¹

[But Intentions Do Increase the Benefit for Parents]

The shaikh, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

Every deed a righteous child does, there’s a large share in that for [his] father and mother. . . . [O]ne who builds a mosque on behalf of his father, [intending the reward go to him], that will benefit his father more than if he were to build the mosque without having intended [that explicitly] for his father. [So] if he were to build a mosque seeking [only] the Face of Allah [without intending anything for his father], he gets his reward, and his father gets a share of it. But if he were to build a mosque [explicitly] on behalf of his father, then this [latter way] is what’s of greater benefit to his father than the former, and vice-versa.²

AN ACT OF INJUSTICE

AN ACT OF INJUSTICE

Kindness is only kindness when it does not involve doing a forbidden act or neglecting to do an obligatory one.

If a kindness involves abandoning justice, it becomes oppression. This is why showing favouritism towards some children above others and to some wives above others is forbidden even though it might be kindness towards the one being preferred and favoured, because it is an act of injustice.

Seeking The Pleasure Of The Parents

Seeking The Pleasure Of The Parents

Imām Ibn Al-Jawzī رحمه الله said:

“Many people are unaware that seeking the pleasure of their parents will increase them in many of the things they desire, by virtue of achieving their Lord’s pleasure, such as one’s lifespan, one’s sustenance and one’s health. And more importantly they will enter Paradise beneath which rivers flow, an everlasting life, in the company of the righteous and the successful.”

Deficiency In Fulfilling Rights

Shaykh Ul-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said:

“When a worshipper finds deficiency in fulfilling the rights of close relatives, the wife, children, neighbours and brothers, then it is upon him to make Du’ā for them and seek forgiveness.”

ONE DAY YOU WILL BE IN THEIR POSITION

ONE DAY YOU WILL BE

 IN THEIR POSITION

There will come a time when you will be a parent just as they were parents, and you will get old with your children - if Allāh degrees that for you - just as your parents grew old with you. Likewise, you will need your children to be dutiful to you, just as your parents needed you to be dutiful to them.

So, if you were dutiful to your parents, then you will rejoice with an abundant reward, and the repayment will be in the same manner.

THANK YOUR MOTHER

THANK YOUR MOTHER

The importance of the woman can be demonstrated by the tasks and hardships that she is burdened with, some of which exceed those that are carried out by men. For this reason it is extremely important to thank your mother, treat her kindly and live with her in honor.

BEING GOOD TO PARENTS AND ENJOINING FAMILY TIES

BEING GOOD TO PARENTS AND

 ENJOINING FAMILY TIES

A person who is dutiful and good to his parents should know that no matter how good he is to them he can never repay or thank them (for their rights and privileges).

A man said to 'Abdullāh Ibn 'Umar (radiyaAllāhu'anhuma):

"I carried my mother on my back all the way from Khorasan until I made her complete the rites of Hajj. Do you think I have repaid her?' He said, 'No, not even for one contraction!"

HE HOME IS A PLACE OF COMFORT

HE HOME IS A PLACE OF COMFORT

The home (is a place) in which the husband lives in tranquility, safety, and stability, and it is that which will reap fruits for his Ummah. The home (is a place) in which children are raised correctly which will result in the rectification of this nation by way of the rectification of the future generations. And the two spouses are the foundation of the family. If the relationship between the two of them is bad, then there will be no stability in the home.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WAITING FOR AN ANGRY PERSON TO CALM DOWN

THE IMPORTANCE OF WAITING FOR

AN ANGRY PERSON TO CALM DOWN

When your friend and acquaintances say deplorable things after getting angry (ghadab), you should not take what they say seriously, or entirely blame them for it. They are similar to a drunkard who remains unaware of what they are saying.

Instead, wait for them to cool down for remember, the devil has overtaken him and that his nature has concealed their intellect ('aql).

If you become angry with anyone over what they say, or talk back to him while he is angry, then you would be just like an intelligent person facing a foolish person- or like an awaken person blaming someone who is unconscious. You would be the liable sinner.

Look at him with mercy (rahma) and notice how destiny is manipulating him and how his nature is playing with him. Know that when he calms down, he will feel guilty for what happened and realize your virtue of patience (fadl al-sabr) with him.

So it is best to leave an angry person to do whatever (temporarily) comforts him.

This is what a son should do with his angry father, and a wife with her angry husband. She should let him say what he wants and not take it seriously because he will return feeling guilty (nādim) and apologetic.

A DINĀR YOU SPENT ON YOUR FAMILY

A DINĀR YOU SPENT ON YOUR FAMILY

One should only refrain from marriage if he fears that he might not be able to fulfill her rights. Bearing the burden of wife and children is like jihād in Allāh's path.

It occurs in the collection of Muslim that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"A dinār you spent in Allāh's path, a dinār you spent to free a slave, a dinār you gave as charity to a poor person, and a dinār you spent on your family- the best of them is the one you spent on your family." *

Spend On Your Families

Spend On Your Families

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Sālih Al-‘Uthaymīn رحمه الله said:

"A person is obligated to spend upon his family - upon his wife and children, in a reasonable manner, even if the wife is rich. The husband is obliged to spend upon her. And if the wife is a teacher and it has been stipulated that the husband allows her to work, he still has no right to anything of her salary, not even half."

The Status of Dutifulness to the Mother [Tawbah]

The Status of Dutifulness to the Mother [Tawbah]

ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār reports:

A man once came to Ibn ʿAbbās and said, “I proposed to a woman and she refused to marry me, then someone else proposed to her and she wanted to marry him; so I became jealous and killed her. Can I repent from this?” [Ibn ʿAbbās] asked, “Is your mother alive?” He replied, “No.” So he said, “Repent (tawbah) to Allāh the mighty and majestic, and worship him as much as you can.”

ʿAṭāʾ said, “So I went and asked Ibn ʿAbbās, ‘Why did you ask him if his mother was alive?’ He replied, ‘I do not know of any action that brings one closer to Allāh than dutifulness to the mother.'”

Household Chores Are From The Sunnah

Household Chores Are From The Sunnah

Noble Shaykh Muhammad Bin Saalih Al- 'Uthaymeen رحمه الله said ;

❝When a person is at home then it is from the Sunnah, that for example he makes his own tea, cooks if he knows how to and washes up that which needs washing, all of this is from the Sunnah.

If you do this then you get the reward of following the Sunnah, with imitating the Messenger [ﷺ] and in humbling yourself for Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic.

This also brings about love between you and your wife. When your family sense that you help them in their chores they will love you and your value to them will increase, therefore, this will end up being a great benefit.❞

Eating With the Family When They Are Watching the Television

The Ruling on Eating With the Family When They Are Watching the Television

Shaikh Zayd al-Madkhali رحمه الله

Questioner: The female questioner from Morocco says: my family watches television and I am forced to sit with them when eating. I am not able to detest it except with my heart. Is there any sin on me?

Answer: “In any case, Allah says:

فَاتَّقُواْ اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
So keep your duty to Allah and fear Him as much as you can
[64:16]

Not everything that is displayed on the television is considered unlawful. What is displayed of benefit, like admonishments and lectures. As for that which there is no good in it, then it is a must upon men and women, both to avoid it. Like the emergence of men and the emergence of women in beautiful clothing and music and the likes of unlawful things for both men and women. So nothing is taken from the television except that which is beneficial in a persons religion or worldly life”
