Saying of the scholars (Ibn Uthaymeen): A person who has spent his life in obedience to Allah...

Saying of the scholars (Ibn Uthaymeen):

"A person who has spent his life

 in obedience to Allah..."*

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymīn, may Allāh have mercy upon him, said:

“Allāh, Glorified and Exalted, is too generous to forsake a person who has spent his life in obedience to Him. If a person is nurtured upon obedience to Allāh, the Almighty and Majestic, and disciplines himself to remain steadfast upon it, then Allāh, in gratitude for his devotion, grants him a good ending and causes him to die upon Islām.”

Are Extreme Sports and Other Risky Activities Allowed?

Are Extreme Sports and Other

 Risky Activities Allowed?

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaimīn

Question:

Is it allowed to take risks or put oneself in danger as we see nowadays in some forms of extreme sports that could lead to death for those practicing them?

Answer:

[Shaikh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ Al-ʿUthaimīn, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:]

This is prohibited [in Islam]. It is not allowed for a person to put himself in danger by way of things in which loss of life or injury are feared since Allāh, High is He above all, says:

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا

And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allāh is Ever-Merciful with you and Caring. (Al-Nisāʾ, 29)

And if Allāh, High is He above all, has forbidden that—He said [what in English means], “Do not kill yourselves”—then, indeed, everything that leads to death or [even] leads to injury is no doubt prohibited [in Islam].

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, your blood, wealth, and honor are all, upon you, inviolable.”[1] So just as it is not permissible for a person to transgress against another, it is not permissible for him to transgress against himself by exposing himself to [activities] that contain a [risk of] death or injury.

THE CONDITION OF THE ISLAMIC SOCIETY DUE TO THE DEATH OF THE SCHOLARS

THE CONDITION OF THE ISLAMIC

 SOCIETY DUE TO

THE DEATH OF THE SCHOLARS

From the sound narration of the Prophet (ﷺ) that he said:

"Indeed Allah does not remove the knowledge by removing it from the hearts of the people, but he removes the knowledge by the death of the scholars. Until no scholar remains, so the people take the ignorant as their religious leaders, so they will ask them for rulings, and they will give verdicts without knowledge, so they will stray, and lead others astray."

What Does It Mean If a Person Dies Suddenly?

What Does It Mean If a Person Dies Suddenly?

Question:

Is sudden death one of the signs of Resurrection [approaching], and is there anything that can protect [one] from [this kind of death]? Is seeking refuge from it enough?

Shaikh Ibn Bāz, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

Some ḥadīths indicate that sudden death will become frequent toward the end of time—a wrathful seizure with regard to the wicked; a relief with regard to the believer. So a believer might suddenly be struck dead due to a stroke or some other cause: [that] is a relief for him and a blessing from Allah upon him, since he had already prepared himself, become rectified, got ready for death, and exerted himself in doing good. So he is taken suddenly while in a good state, upon righteousness and good deeds, and is spared the agonies, difficulties, and hardships of dying.

And [sudden death] can happen to the wicked [as well], but, [in their case], it is a seizure of wrath upon them—they are seized suddenly while in the most evil of states. We ask Allah to keep us safe from harm, [and] we seek Allah’s protection.

Allāh Removes the Souls During Sleep and at the Time of Death

Allāh Removes the Souls During

Sleep and at the Time of Death

by Imām Ibn al-Qayyim

An explanation on when and what occurs when Allāh removes the soul.

Allāh says:

‘Allāh takes the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought.’

[Al-Zumar, 39:42]

Narrated by Al-Suddī concerning the saying of the Most High:

وَالَّتِي لَمْ تَمُتْ فِي مَنَامِهَاۖ

‘And those that do not die, [He takes] during their sleep,’

He [al-Suddī] said: ‘Their souls are taken in their sleep such that the souls of the living meet the souls of those who have passed away. They reminisce and remind one another [of events that have transpired].’

He said; ‘The souls of the living then return to their bodies so that they may fulfil the remainder of their lives in this dunyā. While the souls of the dead desire to return to their [abandoned bodies] except that they are blocked from doing so.’

[Imām Ibn al-Qayyim said:] This is one of the two opinions concerning this verse. It is that the soul that is prevented [from returning to the body] belongs only to those whose souls have been taken from [their bodies] due to death. While the souls that are returned are those that leave their bodies while asleep [such that they awaken in this dunyà]. Therefore, according to this opinion, its meaning is that the souls of the dead are taken [by the angel of death] and held, unable to return to their physical bodies before the Day of Judgement. The souls of those in slumber are also taken but are returned to their bodies such that the rest of their lives are fulfilled [i.e., their preappointed number of years in this dunyà is completed, at which point] their souls are taken again [for the final time, and they die].

The second opinion regarding this verse is that both types of soul, the ones that are held [from returning to their bodies] and those that are returned, are taken similar to one who enters sleep [i.e. expecting to return]. However, those among them whose lives in this dunyā have been completed are then held, disallowed to return to their bodies [such that they die in their sleep]. While those whose lives have not been fulfilled [i.e., they still have time left in this dunyà], their souls are returned to their bodies such that they are able to complete their course. This [opinion] is the stance of Shaykh al-Islām (Ibn Taymiyyah) [may Allāh have mercy on him and purify his soul], He said: ‘The Qurʾān and the Sunnah testify to this.’ He [also] said: ‘Indeed, the Exalted mentions His taking of the souls of those that He has decreed death upon from among the souls that have been taken in sleep [i.e. in His saying:

فَيُمْسِكُ الَّتِي قَضَىٰ عَلَيْهَا الْمَوْتَ

‘Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death’

referring to those that die in their sleep]. As for the ones whose souls have been taken due to their time of death [while wakeful], they have not been described here, rather they are a separate third party.’1

[Imām Ibn al-Qayyim said:] However, the correct opinion is the first one. This is because the Exalted relates two times that souls are taken: the major taking of the soul at death, and the minor taking of the soul during sleep.

Hence, He has divided the souls into two parties:

A party upon whom death has been decreed and thus [their souls] have been held with Him, taken from their bodies in finality.

Another party whose course of life remains, such that their souls are returned to their bodies to fulfil it.

The Exalted has made the holding and sending of souls two rulings that apply to the taking of any soul, such that this one is held and this one is returned [to its body] [i.e. each ruling is applied to the soul that is appropriate]. Allāh relates to us that the one who has not died [in his sleep] still has his soul taken during sleep. Thus, if the taking [of souls] during sleep was divided into two types: souls that are taken in sleep and in death [i.e. those that sleep and awake and those that die in their sleep, as suggested by Shaykh al-Islām] [Allāh] would not have said:

وَالَّتِي لَمْ تَمُتْ فِي مَنَامِهَاۖ

‘And those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep.’

This is because [for those that die in their sleep], from the moment their soul is taken when they fall asleep, they are considered dead. While the Exalted says here that he has not died. How, then, can He say afterwards:

فَيُمْسِكُ الَّتِي قَضَىٰ عَلَيْهَا الْمَوْتَ

‘Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death’

For those that support the first opinion, they answer this claiming that the saying of the Most High: ‘Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death’, this occurs after his soul has been taken out of sleep. That is, the Exalted takes his soul first for sleep, then later decrees death upon it.

The final truth [in this matter] is that the verse is comprehensive of both scenarios. For the Exalted has mentioned two taking of souls: during sleep and at death. He also mentions the holding of the soul of the dead, and returning the soul of the sleeper. It is well-known that the Exalted holds the souls of all those that pass away, regardless of whether they passed away in sleep or while awake. And anyone whose time of death has not arrived has their soul returned [to their bodies]. Thus, His saying:

‘Allah takes the souls at the time of their death’

comprises those who die in their sleep and those who do not.

Endnotes:

1. Translator note: The opinion of Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah is that this verse only refers to those who are asleep. The souls that are held are those that die while sleeping. Those whose souls are returned will awake. Those that die while awake are a third party of people not referred to in the verse according to him.

Hadith: "Remember death in your prayer..."

Hadith: "Remember death in your prayer..."

From Anas who said that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:

«اذكر الموت في صلاتك، فإن الرجل إذا ذكر الموت في صلاته لحري أن يحسن صلاته ، وصل صلاة رجل لا يظن أن يصلي صلاة غيرها، وإياك وكل أمر يعتذر منه.»

❝Remember death in your prayer. Indeed if a person remembers death in his prayer then he will be cautious to make his prayer good, and he will pray the prayer of a person who thinks that he will not be able to pray any other prayer. Be careful of every matter for which you have to make an excuse or apologise for.❞

DEATH IS ABOUT TO KNOCK

ON YOUR DOORS!

Take advantage of the seasons of your life and do not waste time! Use knowledge ('ilm) and wisdom (hikmah) as guides. Race the time by taking advantage of it; and hold your 'selves' accountable and take a lot of good deeds to survive your journey for indeed death is about to knock on your doors.

AS IF YOU HAD NOT HEARD OF THE NEWS OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE..

AS IF YOU HAD NOT HEARD OF

THE NEWS OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE..

The wonder of all wonders is that you are pleased with your arrogance (ghurūr), and your indulgence into idle play while overlooking what has been hidden for you! You are fooled with your health and seem to forget that sickness is near; and you rejoice for your wellness all the while you fail to notice the pain that is yet to come. Verily, the death of others was just to remind you of your own death, and the death of others was only to remind you of your death! Your indulgence in fulfilling your desires averts you from remembering the destruction of your essence.

“He Has Been Buried in His

Final Resting Place.”

Shaikh Uthaimeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said,

“The statement made about a dead person that, ‘He has been buried in his final resting place,’ is haram and not permissible, since when you say, ‘… in his final resting place,’ then according to that the grave is the last thing for him, and that implies a denial of the Resurrection.”

Poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i: "Let days go forth.."

Poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i: "Let days go forth.."

A beautiful poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i (rahimahullah)

Let days go forth and do as they please
And remain firm when settled is the Decree

Don't be afraid of what happens by night
For the affairs of this world are not to last

And be a man, strong in the face of calamities
And let your nature be that of kindness and honesty

If your faults become too much in front of the people
And you wish that they were to be concealed,

Then know that kindness covers all faults
And how many faults are kept hidden by kindness!

No sadness lasts forever, nor any happiness
And you shall not remain in poverty, or any luxury

Generosity cannot be hoped from the miserly
For no water exists in the Fire for the thirsty

Your provision will not be decreased due to life's delays
And it cannot be increased due to your haste

If, in your heart, you possess contentment
Then you and those who possess the world are equal

And for him upon whose horizon death descends,
No earth can offer him protection, nor any sky

Indeed, the earth of Allah is certainly vast
But if decree descends, then the world constricts

Let days be the ones that betray you at all times
For no cure can avail a person of death

The Reality of Death

The Reality of Death

By Dr. Saleh As-Saleh
Published Daar Al-Bukhari

Life in this world has an appointed term, and the end of the term will definitely come...

The righteous will die and the wicked will die...
The worriers for just causes will die and those who run from death will die
Those who busy themselves with correct belief will die...
and those who treat people as their slaves will die...
The brave who rejects injustice will die, and the coward who seeks to cling on to the life at any price will die...

The people of great concern and lofty goals will die, and wretched people who live only for cheap enjoyment will die...

Wherever we will be, in a fortress or in a tent, we will die...

All will die:

Allah (God) says:

Everyone shall taste death... [Quraan 3: 185]

No one will escape death. Allah says:

Say: Verily, the death from which you flee will surely meet you, then you will be sent back to (Allah), the All-Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will tell you what you used to do.[Quraan 62: 8]

This life is a period of trials and tests. Allah says:

He (Allah) has created death and life, that He may test which of you is the best in deed. He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving. [Quraan 67:2]

Man is called to exert the right efforts to achieve the true success in this life and in the hereafter. When exerted according to Allah's way, the outcome is:

Whoever works righteousness whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (in the oneness of Allah), verily to him (or to her) We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise).  [Quraan 16: 97]

But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever.
[Quraan 2: 39]

Those who invoke other than Allah even if they call themselves "Muslims", once evidences are established upon them that they are setting up rivals with Allah, and they die insisting on that, they exit the fold of Islam because they have committed shirk (worshipping or associating others with Allah). Prophets, themselves, are warned to keep away from Shirk in all its forms. In fact after mentioning the names in the good ranks of eighteen Prophets Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, David Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses, Aron, Zachariah, John, Jesus, Elias, Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot together with thier fathers, their progeny, and their brethren.
in Surat (Chapter) of Al-An'aam (Chapter 6 in the Quraan), Allah warned that:

But if they had joined in the worship others with Allah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them. [Quraan 6:88]
A similar note was made clear to the last Messenger of Allah, Muhammad ﷺ , in which Allah says:
And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad ﷺ), as it was to those (Allah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers. [Quraan 39:65]
One of the close and learned companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by the name of Abdullah bin Mas'oud, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Prophet ﷺ said one statement and said another. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever dies while still invoking anything otherthan Allah as a rival to Allah, will enter Hell (Fire)." An I said "Whoever dies without invoking anything as a rival to Allah, will enter Paradise."
[Shahih Al Bukhari Volume 6 Hadeeth 24]

When the appointed term of each soul is concluded, the only thing that counts then, is its stand towards its Creator. At the time when the soul examines the actual death it will be too late for anyone to repent:

And Allah will never grant reprieve to any soul when its appointed time has come, and Allah is aware of all that you do. [Quraan 63: 11]

Until, when death comes to one of them (those who join partners with Allah and those who persist in their rejection of the Resurrection), he says: " My Lord! Send me back (to life) so that I may work in righteousness regarding things left behind!" But no! It is only a word he says; and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the day they are raised up. [Quraan 23: 99-100]

Before it is too late, all people are called to reflect on their way of life, about the purpose of existence and the end. Certainly to Allah will be the return. He made His Message clear and said:

There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path. Whoever disbelieves in Taghut (all froms of false deities) and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower [Quraan 2: 256]

In his Farewell Pilgramage to Makkah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ addressed the people on Friday, the 9th day of the 12th month of the 10th year of the Islamic Hijrah calendar, corresponding to the year 632 of the western calendar: He said:

"... I have left you among you the Book of Allah and if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray. And you will be asked about me (on the Day of resurrection), (now tell me) what would you say? They ( the audience) said, conveyed (the Message), discharged (the ministry of prophethood) and given wise (sincere) counsel."
The Prophet then raised his forefinger towards the sky and pointing at the people (said):

"O Allah be withness, O Allah, be witness, saying it thrice."
[Sahih Muslim V.2 pp. 611-617]

Ibn al-Qayyim on the Fact that Wasting Time is More Severe than Death

Accompanying a disbeliever's Funeral

Following the funeral of a disbeliever

Accompanying a disbeliever's Funeral

Third question from Fatwa no. 2612

Q 3: What is the ruling on attending a disbeliever's Funeral as this is a political tradition and common custom?
(Part No. 9; Page No. 11)
A: Muslims are not allowed to bury the corpses of disbelievers as long as disbelievers can do so. Muslims are also not permitted to participate or help disbelievers in burying their dead in order to follow political traditions. This was not done by the Prophet (peace be upon him) nor by the rightly guided Caliphs. Allah forbade His Prophet (peace be upon him) to stand at the grave of `Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul, because he was a disbeliever. Allah (Exalted be He) says: And never (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) pray (funeral prayer) for any of them (hypocrites) who dies, nor stand at his grave. Certainly they disbelieved in Allâh and His Messenger, and died while they were Fâsiqûn (rebellious, - disobedient to Allâh and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم). If there are no disbelievers who can bury their dead, Muslims should do so. This was done by the Prophet (peace be upon him) with regard to the disbelievers who were killed during the battle of Badr. When his uncle Abu Talib died, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to `Aly: "Go and bury him."
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Burying the Kafir (Disbeliever)

Burying the Kafir (Disbeliever)

(Part No. 9; Page No. 14)

Burying the Kafir (Disbeliever)

Fourth question from Fatwa no. 13477
Q 4: what is the ruling on those who embrace Islam while their parents are still polytheists who worship idols until they die? Is it permissible for their Muslim son to participate in washing and burying them? What is the ruling if the son participates in washing and burying them and other ceremonies of the non-Muslims? What should a Muslim son do after these acts?
A: As a general rule, when a Kafir dies, their relatives should hide their corpse in a hole so that people will not be harmed by them. Neither Janazah (Funeral) Prayer should be performed for them nor they should be washed or shrouded. Anyone who does differently or participates with the non-Muslims in their habits, should repent and ask for Allah's forgiveness. We hope that Allah will accept his repentance.
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Is the punishment of the grave specific to the one who is ACTUALLY in a grave only?

Is the punishment of the grave specific to the one who is ACTUALLY in a grave only?

Al-Imaam Ibnu Abil-Izz (Rahimahu Allah) said in his fantastic explanation on 'Aqeedahtu At-Tahaawiyyah' page 400 :

"And know that the punishment of the grave is the punishment of the Barzakh (Life of the Barrier), so everyone who dies and he is deserving of the punishment will receive his portion from it if was buried or not , if he was eaten by a beast or if he was burnt until he became ashes and was scattered into the air or if he was crucified or if he drowned in the sea, the punishment will still reach his spirit and body the same way it would reach the one who was buried."

Between You and the One in the Grave

Between You and the One in the Grave

It is reported that Al-Hasan Al-Basrī – Allāh have mercy on him – once said during the funeral of a man:

May Allāh have mercy on the man who works for the likes of this day; for today you are able to do what these brothers of yours, the residents of these graves, cannot do. So make full use of your health and free time before the day of distress and accounts comes upon you.

Explaining that people are tested in the grave

Explaining that people are tested in the grave

118 - Explaining that people are tested in the grave

Q: When a human being dies and is buried, will they be punished during the period between death and the Day of Resurrection if they are wrong-doers, or they will be punished for a period of time according to their evil deeds? We would be grateful if you could elaborate on this point, may Allah bless you! .
A: All praise be to Allah! The Sahih (authentic) Hadiths reported about Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) stress that when one is buried in their grave, two angels come to them and ask them about their lord, their Deen and their messenger. If they answer these questions firmly, Allah will open for them a gate to Paradise from which blessings and the fragrance of Paradise come to them. Also, a gate to Hellfire is opened for them to see the abode of Hellfire from which Allah has saved them and given them an abode in Paradise instead. As for disbelievers, they will experience the opposite as a gate to Hellfire is open for them from which torture, foul odors and a fierce hot wind of Hellfire come to them. A gate to Paradise is open for them to see their abode in Paradise which they would have been given if they had done good, but since they disbelieved in Allah, Allah will deprive them of an abode in Paradise. The literal meanings of the Sunnah and the Holy Qur'an stress that the righteous will enjoy blessings, whereas the disbelievers will experience punishment in the grave. However, it is not known how they will be punished and how long such punishment will continue!
(Part No. 4; Page No. 317)
The entire matter is referred to Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He). The same applies to the righteous and how they will enjoy pleasure in the grave. A believer has to do nothing but to believe in what is mentioned in the Prophetic Hadiths. As for the way the righteous enjoy blessings and the way the disbelievers experience punishment in the grave and whether such blessings or punishment will continue or not, the entire matter is referred to Allah (Exalted be He). Allah (Glorified be He) informs us regarding Fir`aun (Pharaoh) : The Fire, they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon. And on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels): "Cause Fir‘aun’s (Pharaoh) people to enter the severest torment!" This Ayah indicates that they are exposed to Hellfire, morning and afternoon, not continuously. Thus, punishment or pleasure is determined by Allah with regard to the details and the way of punishment or pleasure. However, we know that a believer enjoys blessings in the grave, whereas a disbeliever experiences punishment in the grave, but the manner of pleasure or punishment belongs to Allah (Exalted be He). We have nothing to say about this point except for what is mentioned in the Sunnah that a gate to Paradise is open for the believer, from which blessings and fragrances of Paradise come to him and a gate to Hellfire is open for the disbeliever, may Allah save us!
It is related in the Two Sahih (authentic) Books of Hadith (by Al-Bukhari and Muslim), As narrated by Ibn `Abbas, Once the Prophet, while passing through one of the graveyards of Medina or Mecca, heard the voices of two persons who were being tortured in their graves. The Prophet said, "These two persons are being tortured not for a major sin (to avoid)." The Prophet then added, "Yes! (they are being tortured for a major sin). Indeed, one of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine while the other used to go about with calumnies (to make enmity between friends)." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that those two persons were being tortured for two sins, but he did not explain how they were being tortured. As for the sinful, nothing in the Prophetic Sunnah or the Noble Qur'an indicates
(Part No. 4; Page No. 318)
how they enjoy blessings or how they undergo punishment in the grave. Whoever die while committing a sin from which they have not repented such as adultery, drinking alcohol or being ungrateful to parents may be exposed to the danger of punishment, but none knows anything about this matter except for Allah (may He be Exalted and Glorified). However, sinful persons are neither treated like disbelievers nor like the believers, as they will be in a rank between the two parties. In the Hereafter, the sinful may be punished or pardoned by Allah and admitted into Paradise. They may be entered into Hellfire, but they will not remain there forever. They will be punished according to their sins and they will be then taken out of Hellfire to be admitted into Paradise. Sinful persons are no more than wrong doers, as they are neither believers nor disbelievers, but Paradise will be their final abode.

Q: Will those experiencing pleasure in their graves enjoy continuous blessings until being admitted into Paradise in the Hereafter, or may they later be punished on the Day of Resurrection?
A: There are authentic Hadiths reported about Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) that indicate that a dead person is tested in his grave where they will be asked about their lord, their Deen and their prophet. If they give correct answers to these questions, a gate to Paradise is open for them from which blessings, the fragrance of Paradise comes to them and their grave become a garden of the gardens of Paradise. Such blessings will remain till the Day of Resurrection when they will be taken from their grave to Paradise. If one fails this test saying, "Aa, Aa, I do not know, as I heard people say such and such thing, so I followed them," they will be punished in the grave, may Allah forbid! Then, they will be subject

Allah's Will. If they are sinful, they will be under Allah's Will, but if they are disbelievers, they are taken from their graves to Hellfire, may Allah forbid, as Allah (Glorified be He) says: Verily, Allâh forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills
