Celebrating Valentine’s

Celebrating Valentine’s

Questioner:

Celebrating Valentine’s Day has recently become widespread, especially amongst female students. It is a Christian celebration and they celebrate it by wearing completely red attire consisting of red clothing and red shoes, and by exchanging red flowers. We would like from your eminence a clarification of the ruling on celebrating these kinds of events. Also, what is your advice to the Muslims regarding these kinds of affairs? May Allāh preserve you and look after your affairs.

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaimīn:

Celebrating Valentine’s Day is not permissible from a number of angles.

Firstly, it is an unorthodox celebration that has no basis in Islamic rules and customs.

Secondly, it encourages excessive passion and infatuation.

Thirdly, it encourages a person to preoccupy his heart with the likes of these lowly affairs that are in opposition to the guidance of the righteous predecessors, may Allāh be pleased with them.

So it is not permissible to initiate on this day anything symbolic of a celebration, whether it be supplying food, drink or clothing, exchanging gifts or anything else.

A Muslim must derive honour from his religion and not be a yes-man, who follows all and sundry. I ask Allāh the Most High that He protects the Muslims from all trials and tribulations, both apparent and hidden, and that He takes care of us by taking charge of our affairs and leading us to success.

Ibn Uthaymeen regarding islamic nasheeds

 Ibn Uthaymeen regarding islamic nasheeds

Question: Noble Shaykh, Muhammad Saalih al-'Uthaymeen, as-Salaam 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahe wa-barakaatuhu. Is Islaamic inshaad (singing/chanting) permissible for men? And is it permissible to accompany inshaad with the playing of the duff? Is inshaad permissible for other than `Eeds and parties?,

Response: In the Name of Allaah, All Gracious, All Merciful, as-Salaam 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahe wa-barakaatuhu. Islaamic inshaad is an innovation, resembling that which the Soofiyyah (Soofees) have invented. Because of this, it is befitting to abandon this for the message of the Qur.aan and Sunnah. O Allaah, were it that this had occurred on the battlefield then it would motivate courage and Jihaad in the Path of Allaah, the Almighty. Then this is good. And if the duff is used along with this, then this is (venturing) further from that which is correct. ,

Reading The Qur’aan At The Graveyard

Reading The Qur’aan At The Graveyard

Shaykh Muhammad Al-Uthaymeen [رحمه الله] said:

❝As for the graveyards then they are not a place for reading of the Qur’aan, but rather they are a place for giving Salam upon the dead and making Dua for them, not a place for making Dua, nor to make Dua to them.

So the deceased are not to be made Dua to, nor to make [general] Dua at their graveside. But rather Dua is made for them for mercy and forgiveness because they are in dire need of Dua.❞

Ruling on saying: Jumu'ah Mubaarak

Ruling on saying: Jumu'ah Mubaarak

Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan (may Allah preserve him) was asked: What is the ruling on sending text messages every Friday and ending with the phrase “Jumu‘ah mubaarak”?

He replied:  The early generation did not congratulate one another on Fridays, so we should not introduce anything that they did not do.

Ajwabat As’ilah Majallat al-Da‘wah al-Islamiyyah.

"ما كان السلف يهنئ بعضهم بعضا يوم الجمعة;

Sheikh Fawzan was asked the following question: Every Friday one of my colleagues sends me a text saying “Ju’muaah Mubaarak” and he continues saying that he hopes that I will add that to my cell phone greeting or to my greeting on the internet forums; what is your view of this?

Answer:  This is an innovation, Allah has not sent down any authority for this action. This is an action that is not known or narrated in the Sunnah; it has not been narrated that the Muslims should congratulate each other on Friday; rather it has only been reported that they would congratulate each other on Eid Al Adha and Eid Al Fitr not on Friday. Therefore putting this is a text and encouraging others to do it is an innovation and from spreading innovation.

Sheikh Abdul Musin Al Abaad was asked the following question:

Based on the premise that Friday is a (Eid) holiday, is it permissible to greet each other saying, Ju’muaah Mubaarak or Ju’muaah Accepted?

Answer: Sheikh Abdul Musin Al Abaad:

By Allah, we don’t know of anything that proves the validity of this. As for the two Eids then it has been narrated that the companions when they would meet each other they would say, “May Allah accept it from us and you” or “May Allah accept your obedience”.

The Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz was asked the following question:

What is the ruling on the statement Ju’muaah Mubaarak?

Answer: Sheikh Abdul Aziz

There is no origin for sending out the greeting Ju’muaah Mubaarak on the cell phones. It is a bless day, no doubt.Allah the Exalted has singled us out with this day, and the Jews and Christians have been lead astray away from this day, but as for giving a greeting every Friday then we don’t know of any origin for this.

The Emergence Of Time When Bid`ah Will Be Considered As Sunnah

The Emergence Of Time When Bid`ah Will
Be Considered As Sunnah

The Companion, Hudhaifah bin al-Yamaan رضي الله عنه once took two stones and placed one on top of the other and asked his companions: ❝Do you see any light (passing) between these two stones?❞

They said: “O Abu `Abdullaah! We don’t see any light (passing) between these two stones except for very little.”

He said: ❝By the One (Allaah) in whose Hand is my soul! Verily, Bid`ah (religious innovation) will (soon) appear till nothing of the truth is seen except for the amount of light which you see (passing) between these two stones. By Allaah! Bid`ah will circulate (so much) so that if something of it is left out, the people will say: The Sunnah had been abandoned.❞

Allaah's CURSE IS UPON...!

Allaah's CURSE IS UPON...!

Muslim reports that Ali bin Abi Talib رضي الله عنه said:

"Allah's Messenger صلي الله عليه وسلم informed me about four Judgments (of Allaah): (1) Allaah's curse is upon the one who slaughters (devoting his sacrifice) to anything other than Allah; (2) Allaah's curse is upon the one who curses his own parents; (3) Allaah's curse is upon the one who shelters an heretic (who has brought a Bid'ah in religion); (4) Allaah's curse is upon the one who alters the landmarks (who changes boundary lines)."

Praying Qiyaam in Jama-ah

Praying Qiyaam in Jama-ah

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:

“With regard to a group agreeing to meet on a certain night to pray qiyaam al-layl, this is bid’ah, because praying qiyaam in congregation is not prescribed, unless that happens occasionally without prior agreement and unintentionally, as happened with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) with ‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him).”

Celebrating, assisting, eating and preparing food for a child’s birthday

Celebrating, assisting, eating and preparing food for a child’s birthday

Close the door please!

Question: Muslims in this region are celebrating naming ceremony for babies and doing maulid or salatun naaria and the give food to the guests.  Some of us say that we will not come to eat that food because the whole gathering is a bid'a but we participate in that gathering so that the people don't get offended.  But the people who are conducting this celebration  are saying we have made food only for the guest and has no relevance to maulid. And also they force us to eat.  Is it allowed to eat if they force us and they asking daleel to why we are refusing to eat?. please explain with proof in hadeeth that what we are doing is correct or not as we are not able to give concrete evidence

Answer: Celebrating birthdays is an innovation in the religion of Allaah, and it is not permissible to do this. It is not permissible to eat the food that has been prepared for this occasion. Their claim that the food for the birthday celebration is for the guests does not make it excusable to eat it. Hospitality is subject to its own rulings, and matters are judged according to the intentions behind them. It is very clear that the food is being prepared for this innovated occasion, and eating this food is one of the things that helps them to persist in doing this. It is a kind of co-operation in sin and transgression. Allah تعالى  says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Help you one another in Al Birr and At Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression” [al-Maa’idah 5:2]

“AL-MUSTAFA” IS NOT FROM THE NAMES OF THE MESSENGER

“AL-MUSTAFA” IS NOT FROM THE NAMES OF THE MESSENGER (MAY ALLAH RAISE HIS RANK AND GRANT HIM PEACE) – SHAYKH MUHAMMAD BIN SAALIH AL-`UTHAYMEEN

This is a question answered by the noble scholar – the Imam ash-Shaafi’ee of our time – Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-’Uthaymeen, during his explanation of the book al-’Aqeedah as-Safaareeniyyah; (1/72).

Question: Al-Mustafaa, is it from amongst the names of the Prophet, may Allah raise him in rank and grant peace upon him?

Answer: No, what is apparent is that it is from among his [many] descriptions. What is strange is that among some people - Subhaanallah al-Adheem – is their saying “al-Mustafaa said”, although the Companions were much more zealous in venerating him and more knowledgeable of his virtues than we are.

[In spite that] Aboo Hurayrah did not say “al-Mustafaa said” nor did anyone of the Companions say that. That is, in all of the books of Prophetic narrations [what we find is] the Companion saying ” The Messenger said – The Prophet said – Abul Qaasim said – or that which is akin to that. Nonetheless, the people in our present time have been put to trial with formulating expressions and they haven’t looked towards those who preceded them (the Salaf). The reality is, that it is incumbent upon us to look to those who have preceded us. For example, when some of the people these days want to say, “Allah, The Most High said,[instead] they say, “Al-Haqq said “or “This is the statement of Al-Haqq”. There is no doubt that Allah is Al-Haqq Al-Mubeen, yet still you should say “Allah said”. While, there is no doubt that the Prophet, may Allah raise him in rank and grant peace upon him, was more knowledgeable than you and more zealous in venerating Allah than you. Hence, during a discussion if someone desires to speak about Allah, The Mighty, The Sublime what should he say? [He should say] “Allah, The Most High said, for the Prophet said, that Allah, The Most High said (in a Hadeeth Qudsee collected by al-Imam Muslim) “I am the One Who is most free from want of partners”.

However, some people desire to be innovative, but innovativeness in the likes of these affairs are not proper. Rather, following the Salaf in these matters is more appropriate than innovativeness.”

Ruling on having a wedding in the masjid...

Ruling on having a wedding in the masjid...

Q: What is the ruling on having a wedding in the mosque?
Shaykh al-Albaani:
“An innovation.”
[silsilat ul-hudaa wa nnoor 132/17 - asaheeha translations]
Conducting Marriages in the Mosque
by: Shaykh Haanee al-Jubayr, presiding judge an the Mecca District Court
Conducting marriages in mosques is a common practice. The people of Mecca and Jeddah, for instance, are quite keen on holding their marriages in al-Masjid al-Haraam, since the mosque is quite close to them. This has led some people who are concerned with following the Sunnah to ask whether this practice is actually sanctioned by the Sunnah.
First, we must consider the hadeeth evidence. To start with, there is a hadeeth where it is related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Announce the marriage, hold it in the mosques, and beat tambourines on its occasion.” [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (1089) and Sunan al-Bayhaqee (7/290 – 15065)]
However, the hadeeth has a weak chain of transmission, since it contains the narrator `Isaa b. Maymoon, who relates the hadeeth from al-Qaasim b. Muhammad from `Aa’ishah from the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Al-Bayhaqee says: “`Isaa b. Maymoon is a weak narrator.”
Al-Tirmidhee says: “`Isaa b. Maymoon al-Ansari is considered weak in hadeeth.”
Al-Dhahabee informs us that al-Bukhari said: “`Isaa b. Maymoon who relates the hadeeth ‘ Announce the marriage …’ is a weak narrator who amounts to nothing.” [Mizan al-I`tidal (3/326)]
Al-Dhahabee also informs us that `Abd al-Rahmaan b. Mahdi said: “I confronted him (`Isaa b. Maymoon) about it and said: ‘What are these hadeeth that you relate from al-Qaasim from `Aa’ishah?’ He replied: ‘I will not repeat them again.’” [Mizan al-I`tidal (3/325)]
Al-Albaani declares this hadeeth to be weak, both in Irwaa’ al-Ghaleel (1993) and in Silsilah al-Ahadeeth al-Da`eefah (978).
I am not aware of any authentic hadeeth where the Prophet either commanded or prohibited holding marriages in the mosques. I have, at least, not come across anything of the sort. Shaykh al-`Uthaymeen confirms this in his commentary on the Hanbalee legal treatise Zaad al-Mustaqni`, where he comments on the issue of whether it is preferred to hold marriages on a Friday, saying:
Ibn al-Qayyim mentions that it is appropriate for the marriage to be held in the mosque as well (as on a Friday) due to the honor of the time and the place. However, this is questionable on both counts, unless there is something in the Sunnah to establish it. If there is, then good and well. However, I know of nothing in the Sunnah to attest to it. [Al-Sharh al-Mumti` (5/132)]
With regard to the practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him) we have what is related in the following hadeeth about the woman who approached Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) and offered herself to him in marriage:
She said: “O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you to entrust myself to you.”
A person from amongst his Companions stood up and said: “O Messenger of Allah, marry her to me if you have no need of her.”
He (the Prophet) said: “Is there anything with you (which you can give to her as a dowry)?”
He said: “No, O Messenger of Allah. By Allah, I have nothing.”
Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Go to your people (family) and see if you can find something.”
He returned and said: “I have found nothing.” Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “See, even if but an iron ring.”
He said to him: “Do you know any part of the Qur’an?” He said: “I know such and such chapters (and he counted them).”
Thereupon Allah’s Messenger said: “Go. I have given her to you in marriage for the part of the Qur’an which you know.” [Saheeh al-Bukhari (5149) and Saheeh Muslim (1425)]
Ibn Hajar al-`Asqalani, in his commentary on this hadeeth, informs us that in a narration of this hadeeth from Sufyan al-Thawri, it is mentioned that this incident took place in the mosque. [Fath al-Bari (9/113)] Here we have a situation where the Prophet (peace be upon him) conducted a marriage in a mosque, though admittedly, it appears that the location was more incidental than intentional.
Secondly, when we turn our attention to the opinions of the jurists, we find the jurists of all four schools of thought to be agreed that it is Sunnah to hold the marriage in the mosque.
Ibn Taymiyyah says: “It is preferable to contract the marriage in the mosque.” [Majmoo`al-Fataawaa (32/18)]
Ibn Qasim writes: “It is Sunnah to hold it in the mosque. This is what Ibn al-Qayyim said, and he is a trustworthy, erudite scholar who does not declare something to be Sunnah except when there is a legitimate basis for doing so.” [Haashiyah al-Rawd al-Murbi` (6/243)]
Lastly, we need to consider that the reason for contracting the marriage in the mosque is to seek the blessings of doing so in that location. Al-Mubaarakfooree, in his commentary on Sunan al-Tirmidhee discusses the hadeeth “Announce the marriage, hold it in the mosques, and beat tambourines on its occasion” and says:
With respect to the statement “hold it in the mosques ”, this is either on account of it making the marriage easier to announce publicly or to attain the blessings of the location.” [Tuhfah al-Ahwadhee (4/210)]
Without doubt, Allah has made certain locations more blessed than others, and mosques are among these locations. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The most beloved places in the land to Allah are its mosques.” [Saheeh Muslim (671)]
The share of blessings held by al-Masjid al-Haraam in Mecca is greater. Allah says:“Glory be to Him who betook His servant for a swift journey by night from al-Masjid al-Harâm to al-Aqsâ Mosque whose precincts We did bless.” [Surah al-Israa' : 1]
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said about Mecca : “Indeed, it is the best of Allah’s Earth and the most beloved of Allah’s Earth to Allah.” [Musnad Ahmad (4/305) and Mustadrak al-Haakim (3/7) with an authentic line of transmission]
What remains, however, is the question of how we are supposed to realize the blessings of these localities.
`Urwah relates from `Aa’ishah that she said: “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) married me in the month of Shawwaal and consummated the marriage in the month of Shawwaal. So then, which of the Prophet’s wives was more favored by him than me?”
`Urwah then comments that `Aa’ishah used to prefer that the women of her acquaintance enter upon their marriages in the month of Shawwaal. [Saheeh Muslim (1423)]
This hadeeth provides us with two things. The first is that it dispenses with the superstitious hatred of contracting or consummating a marriage in the month of Shawwaal that used to exist amongst the pagan Arabs before Islam.
More important for what we are discussing is that the hadeeth shows us the permissibility of following the mere action of the Prophet (peace be upon him) even when there is no evidence that the circumstances surrounding the action were specifically intended or were anything other than a coincidence. If the Prophet (peace be upon him) had specifically intended the month of Shawwaal as the time for the marriage and for consummating the marriage, he would certainly have expressed this in unequivocal terms, since his words provide a more decisive indication of such things than his actions.
The mere fact that the Prophet (peace be upon him) conducted a marriage in the mosque prevents us from construing a person’s preference for doing so as an innovation, since giving preference to a place (the mosque) is no different than what `Aa’ishah did by giving preference to a time (the month of Shawwaal).

In brief, we say that it is permissible for a person to give preference to the mosque as the place to conduct a marriage. Doing so is not an innovation or unprecedented act. However, there is no evidence for saying that in Islamic Law it takes the ruling of being something preferred or that it is a Sunnah to hold the marriage in the mosque. At the same time, we do not censure those who regard it as being something Islamically preferred, in consideration of the fact that this is the opinion of many of the greatest scholars.

WAS IT THE BELIEF OF THE SALAF TO REJOICE AT THE DEATH OFTHE INNOVATOR

WAS IT THE BELIEF OF THE SALAF
TO REJOICE AT THE DEATH
OF THE INNOVATOR

By: Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzan

Question:

O noble shaykh may Allaah protect you. The questioner ask: was it the belief of the salaf to rejoice at the death of the innovator?

Answer:

The salaf would ask for the guidance of the innovators and people of misguidance. They would supplicate for their guidance. As for rejoicing over theirdeath, then I don't know anything regarding that, but they would supplicate for theirguidance and they would refute their doubts.

Reminder after the burial at the graveyard...

Question:  Is it permissible to give a reminder after the burial at the graveyard?
Answer:
by ash-Shaikh Dr. Saalih bin Sa’ad as-Suhaymi حفظه الله (Lecturer at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah)
No!
If there’s a need it should be before the burial. To remind people to stick to the Sunnah and stay away from Innovation (Bid’ah). So that this doesn’t turn into a sermons and lectures, rather its just a short admonishment. But after the burial, then No.

Question Them About The Sunnah

Hishaam Bin Urwah (rahimahullaah) used to say:

because they have prepared answers for it;

rather ask them about the Sunnah because they do not know it.”

FOLLOWING THE MESSENGER

FOLLOWING THE MESSENGER

And they used to urge (people) to (follow) what the
Messenger (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) and his
Companions, radiyallaahu anhum, were upon * due
to His saying:

“And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and
follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you
away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that
you may become Al-Muttaqoon (pious).”
al-An’aam 6:153

-------------------------------------------------

* And this is where the source of the salvation of
every Muslim lies: in clinging to the Sunnah upon the
way of the Companions of the Messenger (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam), in all matters. The texts supporting
and requiring this are numerous and amongst them
are:

On the authority of Aboo Naajih al-Irbaad ibn
Sariyyah, who said, “The Messenger of Allaah gave us
a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and
tears came to our eyes. We said, “0 Messenger of
Allaah, it is as though this is a farewell sermon, so
counsel us.” He said, “I counsel you to fear Allaah and
to give absolute obedience even if a slave becomes
your leader. Verily he among you who lives (long) will
see great controversy, so you must keep to my
Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the rightly guided
Khaleefahs, bite onto it with your molar teeth. Beware
of newly invented matters, for every invented matter is
an innovation and every innovation is a going astray,
and every going astray is in Hell-fire.” Reported by
Aboo Daawood and at-Tirmidhee, who said that it was
hasan saheeh.

The Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “He
who turns away from my Sunnah is not from me.”
Reported by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim.

Aboo Hurairah said that Allaah’s Messenger
(swallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “All of my Ummah

will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” It was
said, “Who will refuse?” He replied, “Whoever obeys
me enters Paradise and whoever disobeys me has
refused.” Reported by al-Bukhaaree.

The Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) said,
Indeed this Ummah will split into seventy three sects
and all of them are in the Fire except for one, and that
is the Jamaa’ah.” Reported by Ibn Abee ‘Aasim in Al-
Kitaab was-Sunnah (1/33), al-Albaanee said, ‘Hadeeth
Saheeh.’

The Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) also said,
“And this Ummah will split into seven three sects,
seventy-two will be in the Fire and one in Paradise and
that is the Jamaa’ah.” Reported by Aboo Daawood in
his Sunan in the ‘Book of Sunnah’ (no. 4597).

Aboo Umaamah reports that the Prophet (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam) “My Ummah will split up into
seventy-three sects, seventy-two in the Fire and one in
Paradise.” We said, ‘Describe them to us.’ He said,
“As-Suwaad al-A‘dham (the Main Body).” Reported by
al-Laalikaa’ee in Sharh Usoolil-I’tiqaad and Ibn Abee
‘Aasim in as-Sunnah.

The Main Body here does not refer to the great
majority of people in every age and era. Rather this is
specific for the era of the Companions and the
Taabi’een. And furthermore, that person is from the
Jamaa’ah who agrees and conforms to the truth.

‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood (d. 32H) said, ‘The Jamaa’ah
is whatever (agrees) with the Truth. Even if you are
alone.’ Reported by Ibn Asaakir in Taareekh-Dimashq
with a saheeh isnaad.

Ishaaq ibn Raahawaih (d. 238H), the teacher of Imaam
al-Bukhaaree, said, ‘If you were to ask the ignorant
people about the Main Body they would say, ‘The
majority of people.’ They do not know that al-
Jamaa’ah is the Scholar who clings to the narrations
from the Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) and
his way. So whoever is with him (the scholar) and
follows him, then he is al-Jamaa’ah.’ Reported by
Aboo Nu’aym in Hilyatul-Awliyaah.

In the era of the Companions and their Followers, the
Taabi’een, the Main Body in that time were upon the
Truth. This was due to the fact that people were in
nearness to the time of the Messenger (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam) and the Messenger (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam) attested to the credibility of the best
of generations.

As for those who came after them then the fact that
they are many is not to be considered due to the
generality of the texts which give evidence that evil will
increase and spread amongst the people, the Ummah
will split into seventy-three sects and that Islaam will
return as something strange.

Imaam az-Zuhree (d. 125H) said, ‘The people of
knowledge who came before us used to say, ‘Salvation
lies in clinging to the Sunnah.’ Reported by ad-
Daarimee (no.96).

Imaam Maalik (d. 179H) said, ‘The Sunnah is like the
Ark of Noah. Whoever embarks upon it reaches
salvation and whoever refuses is drowned.’ Quoted by
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmoo’ ul
Fataawaa (4/57).

And Al-Haafiz as-Suyooti quotes in his book, Al-Amr
bil-’Ittibaa wan-Nahi anli-Ibtidaa’, the following
narrations from the Salaf:

Abul-Aaliyah (d. 90H) said, ‘You must stick to the
original state of affairs which they were upon, before
they are divided.’

‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood (d. 32H) said, ‘Moderation
upon the Sunnah is better than exertion in
innovation.’

Al-Awzaa’ee (d. 158H) said, ‘Have patience upon the
Sunnah, and stop where the people stopped (the
Companions) and speak with what they spoke with
and hold back from what they held back and travel
upon the path of the Salaf us-Saalih, for verily, what
sufficed them will suffice you.

Sufyaan ath-Thawree (d. 161H) said, ‘No word or
action will be correct until it conforms with the
Sunnah.’

The First people to Celebrate the birthday of the Prophet.

The First people to Celebrate the birthday of the Prophet.

The first people to innovate this celebration of the birthday of the Prophet sws were the tribe of Banee ‘Ubaid al-Qaddaah (1), those who called themselves the Faatimids, and they claimed ascription to the children of the Prophet’s cousin, ‘Alee bin Abee Taalib and his wife Faatimah, the daughter of Allaah’s Messenger sws.

They appeared during the Abbaside Caliphate and ruled Egypt from 360AH onwards for two centuries, and were a sect of the Sh’iites known as the Isma’eelees, due to their connection to Isma’eel Muhammad bin Ja’far – and it is for this reason they are called Isma’eelees. They had many oppositions to the Islamic belief and to Islamic monotheism (Tawheed), and they committed clear unbelief, to the point that their leaders claimed divinity for themselves and were worshipped by their followers. And from them was their Ruler, al-‘Ubaidee. The Muslim historians mention that their real origins far from Faatimah and ‘Alee- rather their origins lie with Magian fire-worshippers of Persia and to the tribe of ‘Ubaid al-Qaddaah. So it is more appropriate that they be called ‘Ubaydees and Isma’eelees, and they remain till this day. They used to believe that Allah is in-dwelling in His creation, in the concept that the Revelation has hidden esoteric meanings that are only known to their own scholars and “saints”, leading them to be considered as unbelievers by the great Scholars of ahlus-Sunnah on that time.

Before them, there was no celebration of the Mawlid of Allah’s Messenger (2). Imaam Ahmad bin ‘Ali, Taqiyy ad-Deen al-Miqreezee (died 845AH) known as the Shaikh of the historians of Egypt has a work famously entitled Kitaab Khitat al-Miqreeziyyah. He lists in this work (3) those Days which the Isma’eelee Shi’ah would take as days of celebration, and the condition of the people during these periods and what they would do. So throughout the year they would single out days for festivities, rituals and celebrations.

NOTES

1: ‘Ubaid bin Maymoon al-Qaaddah was the founder of the state of the ‘Ubaidiyyah in Tunis, North Africa at the end of the 3rd century Hijrah. Imaam al-Dhahabee said in as-Siyar (15/141): “Ubaidullah Abu Muhammad, the first of the Caliphs of the Kharijite ‘Ubaidee Baatinees who overtuned Islaam, proclaimed [the religion of] ar-Rafd (the Shi’ah rejection and hatred of the Companions) whilst concealing the doctrine of Isma’eeliyyah. They sent out callers to misguide the ignorant and the mountain dwellers. This leader claimed he was a Faatimee, from the offspring of Ja’far as-Saadiq.” This ‘Ubaid was the son of Maymoon, a Persian Jew of Magian influence. He ruled the ‘Ubaidee state until 322AH. It was then ruled over by his son, Abul-Qaasim al-Qaa’im bi-Amrillaah until 334AH, then his son al-Mansoor Isma’eel until his death in 341AH, and then his son Abu Tameem al-Mu’izz li-Deenillah who expanded the Isma’eelee Baatinee state into Egypt in the year 358AH. Many wars took place between the Sunni rulers and these Isma’eelee Baatinees. Al-Mu’izz himself was an astrologer believing in the influence of the stars, and he also established tombs and taught the people to seek tabarruk (blessings) from them, leading to the introduction of shirk (directing acts of worship to other than Allaah) into Egypt. Al-Haakim bi-Amrillah, the ruler who came after al-Mu’izz claimed divinity for himself. It was the likes of these who innovated the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday and making it a day of ‘Eid, thus including it amongst the other celebrations of the Shi’ah such as the day of Ghadeer, and the birthdays of Alee, Fatimah, Hasan and Husayn and also the celebration of Christmas as is established from them by al-Maqreezee in al-Khitat. The Ubaidee state was set up to spread disbelief and to fight against Sunni Muslims, their rulers and their states, using the veil of Shi’ism as a cover. (Refer to bidah.com)

Ibn ‘Arabee the Sufi, and the Difference Between Ibn ‘Arabee and Ibnul ‘Arabee

Ibn ‘Arabee the Sufi, and the Difference
Between Ibn ‘Arabee and Ibnul ‘Arabee

The third ideology is that of wahdatul-wujood, i.e. that all in existence is a single reality, and that everything we see is only aspects of the Essence of Allaah. The chief claimant of this belief was Ibn ‘Arabee al-Haatimee at-Taa’ee, who was buried in Damascus having died in the year 638H. He himself says about this belief in his book al-Fatoohaat-ul-Makkiyyah”

“The slave is the Lord and the Lord is a slave,
I wish that I knew which was the one required to carry out the required duties.
If I were to say the servant then that is true, or if I were to say the Lord,
then how can that be required for Him.”
Al-Fatoohaat-ul-Makkiyyah as it is attributed by
Dr. Taqiyyuddeen al-Hilaalee in his book al-Hadiyyatul-Haadiyah (p.43).

He also says in al-Fatoohaat:
“Those who worshipped the calf worshipped nothing except Allaah.”
Quoted as Ibn ‘Arabee’s saying by Ibn Tayrniyyah in al Fataawaa (vol.11)
who attributes it to the book al Fatoohaat.

Indeed he praised Fir’awn (Pharaoh) and declared that he died upon eemaan!

Furthermore he speaks against Haroon for his criticism of his peoples worship of the calf, thus directly opposing the text of the Qur’aan.

He also held that the Christians were Unbelievers only because they made divinity particular to ‘Eesaa, whereas if they had made it general to all then they would not have been unbelievers. [Despite all the gross deviation of Ibn 'Arabee and the fact that the scholars declared him to be an Unbeliever, yet he is revered by the Sufis and others who do not distinguish between the truth and falsehood, and those who turnaway from accepting the truth even when it is as clear as the sun. But his books, which are filled with clear apostasy, such as al-Fatoohaatul-Makkiyyah and Fusoosul-Hikam are still circulated. He even has a tafseer, which he called at-Tafseerul-Baatin since he holds that there is an apparent and a hidden meaning for every Aayah, so the outer meaning is for the people of Ta'weel]

The scholar Burhaanuddeen al-Baqqaa’ee said, explaining the beliefs of Ibn ‘Arabee at the start of his book, Tanbeebul-Ghabee:

“Firstly it must be known that his speech, i.e. that of Ibn ‘Arabee, revolves around unrestricted unity of allexistence, that there is nothing besides this world, and that the Deity is a composite whole which does not exist except within its parts.”

Ibn ‘Arabee held that all the pagans and idol-worshippers were upon the truth since Allaah is in his view everything. Therefore whoever worshipped an idol, or worshipped a stone, or a tree, or a human, or a star, then he has worshipped Allaah.

O brothers, if the Sabians were unbelievers because they worshipped the stars, and the Jews were unbelievers because they worshipped the calf, and the Christians were unbelievers because they worshipped ‘Eesaa, and the Quraysh were unbelievers before Islaam because they worshipped idols…then how can the one who calls to the worship of all these things not be an unbeliever? [See Hadhihi Hiyas-Soofiyyah (p.38)].

Ibn ‘Arabee even admits his belief that all religions are one and that his heart is ready to embrace every sect and religion.

As to what proceeds: The noble shaikh, al-Allaamah Saalih ibnu Fawzaan ibni Abdillaah al-Fawzaan was asked the following question:

Question:

I find some vagueness between Ibnu Arabee and Ibnul Arabee. I would hope that you would explain for us the difference between the two and their most well, known writings?

Answer:

The difference between the two is clear. Ibnu Arabee without the definite article [attached to the name Arabee] is the well known heretic who used to espouse Wahdatul Wujood and he was one of the extremist Soofees who were eventually lead to the issue of ilhaad, the statements of Wahdatul Wujood and that there is no difference between the Creator and the creation. And according to his aqeedah, all that exist is Allaah, the Most High.

As for Ibnul Arabee, with the definite article [attached to the name Arabee], then he is the well-known, lofty imaam, Aboo Bakr ibnul Arabee, al-Maalikee who had noble writings in the area of hadeeth and tafseer and a noble book, defending the Companions, which he called al-Awaasim minal Qawaasim.

He defended in that book, Islaam and the Companions of the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu alaihe wa alaa Aalihee wa Sahbihee wa sallam.

It is a noble book and he also has a book entitled Tafseeru Aayaatil Ahkaam, in two huge, volumes. He also has an explanation of the Sunan of [al-Imaam] at-Tirmidhee called Aaridatul Ahwadhee fee sharhit Tirmidhee.

All of these books are published and to be [easily] found and all the praise is due to Allaah.

Therefore, there is an obvious difference between these two men; one is an astray disbeliever, and that is none other than Ibnu Arabee, al-Haatimee, at-Taa’ee while [the other one] Ibnul Arabee is a noble, lofty imaam known for correctness, knowledge and fear of Allaah.

Dawud Adib the son of David C.White Sr.

Jazaakum Allaahu khayran. It should be noted that this is not absolute, as some of the ‘ulamaa’ do not go by this. Just as some say Ibn ‘Uthaymeen sometimes and Ibn al-’Uthaymeen sometimes, ‘Abbaas, al-’Abbaas, Ibn Qayyim, Ibn al-Qayyim, etc., they may say Ibn ‘Arabee and Ibn al-’Arabee for the same person. And Allaah knows best.
