The Reality of Dhikr and Fear of Allah

The Reality of Dhikr and Fear of Allah

It is reported that Saʿīd b. Jubayr – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

Verily, fear (al-khashyah) is that you fear Allāh such that your fear comes between you and your disobedience (of Allāh). That is khashyah. And dhikr (remembrance) is obedience to Allāh: whoever obeys Allāh has remembered Him; and whoever does not obey Him is not a rememberer of Him, even if he says a lot of tasbīḥ and recites a lot of Qurān.

Al-Dhahabī, Siyar ʾAʿlām Al-Nubalāʾ 4:326.

O Miskeen!

Al-Imaam Al Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad said:

“O Miskeen! You are an evil-doer and you think yourself to be one who does good. You are an ignoramus and you think yourself to be a scholar. You are a miser and you think yourself to be generous. O foolish one! You see that you are intelligent. Your time is short, but your hope is long.”

[Adh-Dhahabi]: I say: Yes, by Allah, he has spoken the truth. And you are an oppressor and you think yourself to be the one who is oppressed. And you eat what is unlawful and you think that you are cautious and fearful (in this regard). And you are a sinner and you think yourself to be just and upright. And you seek the knowledge (of the religion) for the world, and yet you think that you seek it for Allaah.

Mention of the people is a disease...

‎'Abdullah bin 'Awn, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

"Mention of the people is a disease and rememberance of Allaah is a cure."

Al-Haafidh Adh-Dhahabi, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: "I said: "Certainly by Allaah. So it is amazing how we and our ignorance, leave off the cure and embark upon the disease?

Allaah, the Most High, says: "So remember Me and I will remember you." [2:152] and He says: "And the rememberance of Allaah is greater." [29:45] and He says: "And those who believe and whose hearts find tranquility in the rememberance of Allaah. Do not the hearts find tranquility in the rememberance of Allaah?" [13:28]

However that isn't achieved except by the success of Allaah. And whoever constantly invokes Allaah and keeps knocking at the door, it will be opened for him."

Hardship whilst seeking 'Ilm (Knowledge)

Imagen Original

It is well known how the salaf would strive whilst travelling to in order to seek knowledge and they would go through trials and tribulations.

Ibn taahir al maqdasee rahimahullah said

" I urinated blood twice whilst seeking hadeeth. Once in Baghdaad and another in Makkah. I used to walk barefooted in the heat, and it overtook me, not once did I get on a riding beast whilst seeking hadeeth, I would carry my books on my back, I never asked anyone (for anything) at the time of request, I used to live upon whatever comes (in aid)"

Abdullaah bin Mas’ood رضي الله عنه

Abdullaah bin Mas’ood رضي الله عنه

He was the great Companion of the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم), Abdullaah bin Mas’ood bin Ghafil bin Habeeb (رضي الله عنه‏), died in 32 A.H. in Madina and Zubair led the funeral prayer and was buried in Baqi’.

He was the sixth person to embrace Islaam even before Umar bin Khattab – Radi Allaahuanhu. The Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) testified to his place in Paradise‘Alee (صلى الله عليه وسلم) mentions that the Messenger of Allaah ordered Ibn Mas’ood to climb up a tree to bring something down from it, and his companions looked at the shins of Abdullaah bin Mas’ood while he was climbing the tree, and they began to laugh at the thinness of his shins! So the Messenger of Allaah said: ‘What causes you to laugh?! The leg of Abdullaah is heavier in the scales on the Day of Judgement than mount Uhud.’

[Recorded by Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad and authenticated by Shaykh Ahmad Shakir(920)]

Abdullaah bin Mas’ood was of the great recitors of the Qur’aan, it was said that he was one of the closest in guidance to the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه وسلم)
