Qadr related to the believer is always bounty..

Qadr related to the believer is always bounty..

“The divine decree related to the believer is always a bounty, even if it is in the form of withholding (something that is desired), and it is a blessing, even if it appears to be a trial, and an affliction that has befallen him is in reality a cure, even though it appears to be a disease!

Unfortunately, due to the ignorance of the worshipper, and his transgressions, he does not consider anything to be a gift or a blessing or a cure unless he can enjoy it immediately, and it is in accordance with his nature. If he were only given a little bit of understanding, then he would have counted being withheld from as a blessing, and the sickness as a mercy,

and he would relish the trouble that befalls him more than he relishes his ease, and he would enjoy poverty more than he enjoys richness, and he would be more thankful when he is blessed with little than when he is blessed with a lot.”

Anxiety and Solicitude of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz

Original Image
Anxiety and Solicitude of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz

Umar ibn Salih al-Azdi related: “I heard an old man from the people of Sham saying: “‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz entrusted his servant with a bag (in which perfume and such alike are stored). Then when he passed away his servant was approached to claim the bag of ‘Umar. However, the servant refused handing it to them and said: “There is no good in it for you.” The case was presented to Yazid ibn ‘Abdul Malik so he ordered to bring him the bag and he called the members of Bani Umayyah to witness opening the bag. When everyone gathered he said: “We have found that the best person amongst you (‘Umar ibn ‘Abdul ‘Aziz) left behind a bag as a trust.” When they opened the bag they found in it pieces of ruined garments he used to wear at night.”

Encouraging Muslims to observe Sawm on the Day of `Ashura'

Encouraging Muslims to observe
Sawm on the Day of `Ashura'

(Part No. 15; Page No. 397)

155- Encouraging Muslims to observe Sawm on the Day of `Ashura'

All praise be to Allah Alone and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and upon his family, companions, and whoever follows his teachings.

It is authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to observe Sawm (Fast) on the Day of `Ashura’ (10th of Muharram) and he would encourage people to do so. This is because on that Day Allah (Exalted be He) rescued Moses (Musa, peace be upon him) and his people and destroyed Pharaoh and his people. Therefore, it is Mustahab (desirable) for every male and female Muslim to observe Sawm on that Day i.e. the 10th day of Muharram, to express their gratitude to Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He). In addition, it is Mustahab to observe Sawm on the day preceding `Ashura' or on the succeeding day in order to differ from the Jews with regard to the way of observing this Sawm. However, a person may observe Sawm for the three days altogether i.e. the ninth, the tenth, and the eleventh of Muharram for it is reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated: Differ from the Jews and observe Sawm for one day before `Ashura' and one day after it. According to another narration: Observe Sawm for a day before (the Day of `Ashura') or after it. It is also authentically reported that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about observing Sawm on the Day of `Ashura', he (peace be upon him) said: Allah expiates by it the sins of the

past year. There are many other Hadith encouraging Muslims to observe Sawm on the Day of `Ashura'. The calendar shows that Saturday will be the 30th of Dhul-Hijjah of this current year 1416 A.H. Nevertheless, sighting the new moon may confirm this or prove it is the first of Muharram 1417 A.H. and that Dhul-Hijjah of the year 1416 A. H. is only 29 days. Accordingly, it is better for Muslims this year to observe Sawm on Monday and Tuesday to be on the safe side as Sunday may be the 9th of Muharram if Dhul-Hijjah is only 29 days, or the 8th if Dhul-Hijjah is 30 days. However, observing Sawm on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday is good as doing so is a further precaution to guarantee applying the Sunnah (a commendable act) and because observing Sawm on three days of each month is a well-established Sunnah as explained previously. Finally, I ask Allah to guide us and all Muslims to all that pleases Him and to make us all amongst those who hasten to all goodness. Verily, Allah is the Most Generous, the Most Bountiful. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!

Humility of shaykh al Fawzaan

Humility of shaykh al Fawzaan

Sheikh Saalih Ibn Fawzan in Todays Arabic newspaper (31/08/06) says:

I don’t consider myself from the scholars, I am still a student of knowledge, a beginner, and I call upon my Lord and say “O My Lord increase me in knowledge” and in the (well known) narrations or wise sayings it is said “Whoever says that he is a scholar then he is ignorant, so I seek refuge that I say I am a scholar.”

Beauty and Knowledge

Beauty and Knowledge

Ibn Al-Qayyim, rahimahu`Allahu Ta`aala, said:
“When Allah granted Prophet Yoosuf (`alayhis-Salaam) physical beauty it caused him to be locked up in the prison; but when Allah granted him knowledge (when he interpreted the dream of the king) it not only took him out of prison, but elevated his rank in society, clearly showing us the virtue of knowledge and that physical beauty does not mean anything.”

If a Scholar has two contradicting opinions which one do we follow?

If a Scholar has two contradicting opinions which one do we follow?

By Shaykh Fawzan

Question: I ask Allah to give you good. If a scholar has two opinions concerning one issue, then we learn that his last statement was his second opinion, is it upon us to take his first statement and leave his second statement especially if the two statements contradict each other?

Answer: My brother, we do not worship according to the statements of the scholars, we worship according to proofs and evidence conveyed from the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, thus whatever agrees with the proofs from the Book and the Sunnah from the statement of the scholar or from the statements of the scholars then we take it and whatever opposes the evidence we leave it.

The ruling on saying ”shukran” to the
one who rendered goodness to a person

Question: What is the ruling on saying “shukran” to the one who rendered goodness to a person?

Answer: Whoever did that has abandoned that which is more superior, which is the saying, “JazaakAllaahu khayran” (may Allaah reward you with good). And in Allaah lies success.

But a few…

But a few…

Imaam Ibn Jawzee, rahimahullaah:

How excellent are the people who have abandoned sweet dreams, withdrawing from that for which they erected their feet for. Standing up to fatigue themselves in the dark, seeking a portion of the blessing. When the night comes they stand up, and when the day arrives they derive lessons from it. When they look at their faults they seek forgiveness, and when they think about their sins they cry and feel dejected. O’ dwelling of the beloved, where are your inhabitants? O’ places of sincerity, where are your residents? O’ spot of the pious, where are your people? O’ places of nightly prayer, where are your vistors? I have, by Allaah, traveled around and found these people extinct. Those who used to stay awake at night have gone away and the lovers of sleep are left. These times have sought eating the lust to replace fasting.

The best book of Tafsir

The seventh question of Fatwa no. 2677
Q 7: Which is the best book of Tafsir (exegesis of the meanings of the Qur’an) among the old and contemporary books?
A: Judging which are the best books of Tafsir differs depending on the capability and capacity of the reader. Anyway, the best books are the Tafsir of Ibn Jarir Al-Tabary and Ibn Kathir and other books of Tafsir that adopt the Athar-based (Narrations from the Companions) approach of Tafsir. These are simpler in expression, clearer in teaching and conveying the meanings of Qur’an, closer to the truth, more clarifying to the objectives of Shari‘ah (Islamic law), along with citing the relevant authentic Hadiths and Athars,
(Part No. 4; Page No. 179)
and resorting to Muhkamat (decisive legislative, self-contained Qur'anic verses, closed to any interpretation) for interpreting Mutashabihat (similar and dependent Qur'anic verses, open to more than one interpretation or whose meaning is known only to Allah).
May Allah grant us success. May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions.

Instead ask One who has ordered you to ask Him

‘Instead ask One who has ordered you to ask!…’

Instead ask One who has ordered you to ask Him
Asking Allaah expresses servitude of a profound nature because in doing so, one displays his need of Him and acknowledges His ability of answering that need. To ask a created object is oppressive because that object is unable to produce good for itself, or repress harm from itself, let alone do so for another! To ask of it is to put something that is unable in the place of One who is able.
The meaning is testified to by the hadith in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Abu Dharr that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said (Allaah says:), “My servants! If the first and last of you, the man and jinn of you, stood in one plain and asked of Me, and I grant every one his request, it would not decrease what is with Me except as a needle decreases the (volume) of an ocean when dipped in it” (Muslim)
Tirmidhee and others record an additional wording “…and that is because I am Generous, Rich beyond need, Glorious. I do what I wish. My gift is a word and My punishment is a word. When I wish a thing to be, I only say, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Tirmidhee graded Hasan)

So how can one who is needy and incapable be asked yet the One who is rich and able be left?! This is truely astonishing!
One of the Salaf said, ‘I am ashamed to ask Allaah for anything of this world even though He owns it, so how can I possibly ask someone who does not own it?! ‘ i.e an object of creation.
One of the Salaf came upon difficult times and decided to ask one of his brothers for help. He saw a person in a dream saying,
Is it acceptable for one who is free,
When he finds all he wants with Allaah,
To incline his heart towards the servant?
He awoke to find that he was, amongst people, the most content of heart.
One of the Salaf said, ‘I read the following in one of the heavenly scriptures:

“Allaah, Mighty and Magnificent, says, ‘Is someone other than Me hoped for during adversity?! Adversity is in my hand and I am the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining.  Someone other than Me is hoped for and his door is knocked on in the early hours?!  In My hands are the keys to all treasures and My door is open to whoever invokes Me!  Who can say that he placed his hope in Me during hardship yet I cut him off?  Who can say that he placed his hope in Me during adversity and I cut short his hope?  Who can say that he knocked on My door and I did not open it for him? I am the source of hopes, so how can hopes be severed before Me?  Am I a miser such that the servant finds me niggardly?  Is not the world, the Hereafter, kindness and grace entirely with Me?  What prevents the hopers from placing their hope in Me?  Were I to gather the inhabitants of the heavens and earth and grant each and everyone of them what I grant all of them together, and were I to fulfil the hope of each one of them, My dominion would not be decreased an atoms weight!  How can a dominion decrease, the sustainer of which is Me?  Wretched is the state of those who disobey Me and boldly encroach My proscriptions!” ‘
Allaah loves to be asked and is angry at someone who does not ask Him. He wants His servants to desire Him, to ask Him, to invoke Him and show their need of Him.
He loves those who are earnest and persistent in supplication. Creation generally hates being asked because it is in need and incapable.
Ibn al-Sammak said, ‘Ask not one who will run away from you rather than listen to your request, instead ask One who has ordered you to ask Him.
Abu’l- Ataiyyah said,
Allaah is angry if you leave asking Him
The child of Adam is angry when you ask Him
Direct your request to Allaah since
In our Lords blessings do we vacillate.

Yahya ibn Mu’adh would say, ‘O You who is angry at whoever does not ask of You, do not hold back from someone who does ask You!’
Allaah, Most High, requests His servants to ask of Him. Every night He calls out, ‘Is there one asking of Me that I may give im? Is there one invoking Me that I may respond?’ (-Bukhari & Muslim)
Allaah, The Most High says,

If My servant asks you about Me, I am near. I answer the call of the caller when he calls on Me” (2:186)
Regardless of what time the servant supplicates to Him, he will find Him hearing, close and responsive; there will be no screen between the two and no sentry at the door. Were he to ask a created being, quickly would he find barriers erected, doors being closed and he will find it very difficult to reach the person most of the time.

Warn People Against Deviants

Warn People Against Deviants

Question:

Is it permissible to mention peoples names and characters when one wants to criticize them and their thinking?

Answer:

If someone writes something that contradicts the pure Shari'ah, and distributes that material, or if he promulgates that view in the media, it becomes compulsory to refute him and expose the falsehood of what he says. There is nothing wrong in mentioning that person's name or in warning people about him if he calls to innovation, shirk, or if he calls people to what Allah has prohibited or to disobedience. Until this day, there are knowledgeable and believing people from the callers to the truth and bearers of the Shari ah fulfilling this obligation, sincerely for Allah Almighty and for the benefit of His servants, rebuking the wrong, inviting to the truth, warning others against those who propagate falsehood and destructive rhetoric.

I Don’t want to Learn the Religion because I fear that I Won’t Act upon It

I Don’t want to Learn the Religion because I fear that I Won’t Act upon It

Shaykh Zayd Al-Madkhalee
Question:

The questioner says: I fear that if I gain Fiqh (comprehension in the religion that I will not act upon it and thus fall into sin.

Answer:
This is an argument that is not correct. It has no basis in the legislation nor in the intellect, and it is not permissible for him to hold this ideology. It is upon him to have a good thought about himself and be truthful with Allaah. So if he learns whilst being determined to act upon his knowledge then Allaah will pour forth upon him from His Tawfeeq and will guide him to act upon that which he knows. As for him preferring to remain upon ignorance, fearing that he will not act upon the knowledge, then this is a sign of destruction and a reason for bankruptcy in terms of legislative knowledge which rectifies the affairs of the Deen and the Dunyaa.
So it is upon the brothers to reject the likes of this ideology; and it is that which I have heard more than once from some people, while this ideology is not correct. Rather, it drags to misery and not to happiness and a wholesome life. Rather, the servant is commanded to acquire Fiqh in the religion and to learn in order to act upon this religion. If there occurs from him some shortcoming or an error, then it is upon him to repent to Allaah the Exalted, for no one is infallible from error. Rather, perpetuity in acquiring Fiqh in the religion within every time and in every circumstance, while having a truthful intention, is the behavior of the righteous, as Allaah the Glorified and High, has said:
وَالَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَآتَاهُمْ تَقْواهُمْ
While as for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance, and bestows on them their piety.(Muhammad 47:17)
And He, the Mighty and Majestic, has said:
لِيَزْدَادُوا إِيمَانًا مَّعَ إِيمَانِهِمْ
…that they may grow more in Faith along with their (present) Faith. (Al-Fath 48:4)
So he who enacts the means, truthfully, sincerely, and correctly, by Allaah, he will not be destroyed. Rather, he will be happy in his Dunyaa, his Barzakh, and his Hereafter.
