Poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i: "Let days go forth.."

Poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i: "Let days go forth.."

A beautiful poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i (rahimahullah)

Let days go forth and do as they please
And remain firm when settled is the Decree

Don't be afraid of what happens by night
For the affairs of this world are not to last

And be a man, strong in the face of calamities
And let your nature be that of kindness and honesty

If your faults become too much in front of the people
And you wish that they were to be concealed,

Then know that kindness covers all faults
And how many faults are kept hidden by kindness!

No sadness lasts forever, nor any happiness
And you shall not remain in poverty, or any luxury

Generosity cannot be hoped from the miserly
For no water exists in the Fire for the thirsty

Your provision will not be decreased due to life's delays
And it cannot be increased due to your haste

If, in your heart, you possess contentment
Then you and those who possess the world are equal

And for him upon whose horizon death descends,
No earth can offer him protection, nor any sky

Indeed, the earth of Allah is certainly vast
But if decree descends, then the world constricts

Let days be the ones that betray you at all times
For no cure can avail a person of death

O you transgressing sinner, slow down!

O you transgressing sinner, slow down!

Imam abu Muslim and the Jinn

Abee Muhammad ibn Maasi said: ‘Aboo Muslim al-Kajji narrated to us:

“I went out and found that the hammam [a public bath] was open in the
early morning.
So I said to the person in-charge: ‘Has anyone entered yet?’

And he answered: ‘No.’

So I entered and immediately I opened the door, a speaker said to me:
‘Aboo Muslim aslim taslim [Abu Muslim submit and you will be saved].’ And then he
started reciting poetry saying:

‘For You [Allaah] is all the praise; either for the favours,

Or for the afflictions you prevent;

You Wish and You do as You will,

And You hear what cannot be heard.’

He [Aboo Muslim] said: ‘So I hastened and left while I am shocked.

And I said to the caretaker of the hammam: “didn’t you say that there is nobody in it!!?”

So he said: ‘that is a jinn, time after time he reaches out [communicates] to us and speaks by lines of poetry!’

Thus I said: ‘Have you memorized any of his poetry?’

He replied: ‘Yes.’

And he then read to us:

أيها المذنب المفرط مهلا

O you transgressing sinner: Slow down,

how long have you –ignorantly- extended and acquired sins;

How many of the actions have you done to
anger The Noble,

Disgustingly while think he is doing good;

How can the eyelids close and be calm; of the one who does not know,

Is The One Above the throne pleased with him or not.”

End of narration.

Shaykh Al-Albaanee said: ‘The chain of this story is authentic; all its
narrators are Thiqaah. ’

The major scholar and Haafidh (memorizer), the leader of narrators of his era, Abu Muslim Ibraahim ibn Abdullaah al-Basree al-Kajji, the author of ‘Sunan’ ; he passed away in the year 292. And he had met Abu Aasim al-Answaaree, and lived long. [200-292 H].

Benefits:
- Even the jinn affirm and believe in the Noble Attributes of Allaah like: His Will, His Hearing, His Knowledge, His Anger, His Pleasure, and most importantly Al-Istiwaa [Him being Above the throne].

The excellence of books of Hadeeth such as al Bukharee!

The excellence of books of
Hadeeth such as al Bukharee!

Al-Fadl ibn Isma’eel al-Jarjaanee said in his lines of poetry:

“Saheeh al Bukharee – if they were fair to it,

would not be written except with water of gold,

It is the difference between the guided and the blinded,

It is a barrier excluding distress and ruin.

The asaaneed are like the stars of the sky,

The main text like a shooting star, With it,

the scales of the religion of the prophet (sallallahu alyhi wa sallaam) were set up,

The foreigners followed the arab in submitting to it,

Making a sheild from the fire, with no doubt in it.

Distinguishing between those who recieve (Allaah’s) pleasure

and those who recieve His anger”

"Verily, grasping the forms of knowledge only benefits, those who act upon them whilst being a pious person.”

"Verily, grasping the forms of knowledge only benefits,
those who act upon them whilst being a pious person.”

Abu Abdillah Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Abdillah as-Soori recited the following verses:

“For how long will I strive in seeking knowledge,
working hard to gather it and welcoming it warmly,

Seeking to study from it all of its forms and subjects,
and difficult topics, while not producing any deeds at all?

If the one seeking knowledge doesn’t produce good deeds, based on his knowledge,
he becomes a wretched servant;

Verily, grasping the forms of knowledge only benefits,
those who act upon them whilst being a pious person.”

Ibn Qudamah’s poetry Allaah’s ‘Uluww (Transcendence)

Ibn Qudamah’s poetry
Allaah’s ‘Uluww (Transcendence)

Imam ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi (d.620H) eloquently and poetically said:

Allah described Himself with al-’Uluww fi’s-Sama

And He was described with this by the seal of the Anbiya,

And this was agreed upon by all of the ‘Ulama – from the pious Sahabah and fuqaha,

Narrations have been reported about this with yaqeen

And these have been accepted in hearts of the Muslimeen,

And this is a naturally instinctive belief in all creation,

So when a calamity befalls them they look to the heavens and raise their hands making supplications,

And they wait for succour to arrive from the Creator of creations,

And they pronounce this upon their tongues,

And this is only rejected by an extremist innovator, who is steeped in his deviance,

Or one tested by uncritical following of him in his misguidance.
