The Remedy for Whispering (of Satan) in the Prayer

The Remedy for Whispering

 (of Satan) in the Prayer

Question:

When I begin to pray, I am afflicted by a kind of whispering and thoughts, and sometimes I do not know what I have recited, nor how many Rakahs I have prayed. Please tell me what I should do.

Answer:

It is prescribed for the worshipper - man or woman - to approach the prayer with humility towards Allaah and to call to mind that he stands before his Lord, so that Satan will stay away from him and the whispering will be reduced, in implementation of Allaahs Words: Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their prayers with all solemnity and full submissiveness. [1] If the whispering becomes frequent, it is prescribed to seek refuge with Allaah from Satan, as the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) ordered Uthman bin Abi Al-As, when he informed him that Satan had confused his prayers. And when the worshipper becomes uncertain as to the number of Rakahs he has prayed, he should assume the minimum, base his estimation upon what he is sure of, and then complete his prayer. Afterwards he performs two prostrations of forgetfulness before making the Taslim, based upon the narration of Abu Said, may Allaah be pleased with him, from the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) in which he said: If any of you is in doubt regarding his prayer, and he does not know how much he has prayed, three or four (Rakahs) then let him cast aside doubt and base his estimation upon what he is sure of. Then prostrate twice before making the Taslim, if he has prayed five, his prayer will be an intercessor for him, and if he has completed the prayer correctly, it will be a humiliation for Satan. [2] And Allaah is the Granter of success.

Should 'Eid Ever Happen To Fall On a Friday

Should 'Eid Ever Happen To Fall On a Friday

If Al-Jumu'ah and Al-'Eid come together on the same day, then the Scholars have three sayings with regards to it. The third of them; which is correct is that: whosoever attends the 'Eid, then the Jumu?ah falls away from him. However; it is upon the Imaam to establish the Jumu'ah prayer, to allow anyone to wishing to attend to do so ? as well as those that did not attend the 'Eid.

Since this is what has been conveyed from the Prophet (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and his companions, there is no differing known amongst the companions in that. So one who does not attend the Jumu'ah prayer instead prayers Dhuhr ? thus the Dhuhr is prayed in its time.

The Ruling of the One Who Doesn’t Pray But Fast In Ramadaan (Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan may Allaah preserve him)

The Ruling of the One Who Doesn’t Pray But Fast In Ramadaan (Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan may Allaah preserve him)

Questioned posed to al-Allaamah Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him)

Q. What is the ruling of the one who fast the blessed (month of) Ramadaan without praying at all with no (legislated) excuse, knowing that we have advised him many times, but he has not listened?

A. The one who waste the prayer, the fast nor any other action is considered sound (i.e. accepted) from him. That is because the one who abandons the prayer has disbelieved and the action that comes from the disbeliever is not sound (i.e. accepted). The prayer is the second pillar from the pillars of Islaam and the fast is the fourth pillar. Therefore the prayer is given precedence over the fast and it is the pillar of Islaam.

Therefore the one who doesn’t pray, his fast or any other action is not accepted from him. Upon him is to repent to Allaah The Glorified and Most High and preserve the five daily prayers. Then after that, he preserves the rest of the affairs of his religion from the fast and other than it.

As long as he is not praying he is not a Muslim and his actions are not accepted from him. The prayer is the pillar of Islaam. Does a building stand without a pillar!? This is impossible.”

Hadith: "Remember death in your prayer..."

Hadith: "Remember death in your prayer..."

From Anas who said that the Messenger of Allaah [] said:

«اذكر الموت في صلاتك، فإن الرجل إذا ذكر الموت في صلاته لحري أن يحسن صلاته ، وصل صلاة رجل لا يظن أن يصلي صلاة غيرها، وإياك وكل أمر يعتذر منه.»

❝Remember death in your prayer. Indeed if a person remembers death in his prayer then he will be cautious to make his prayer good, and he will pray the prayer of a person who thinks that he will not be able to pray any other prayer. Be careful of every matter for which you have to make an excuse or apologise for.❞

WHEN TO PRAY WITR..

WHEN TO PRAY WITR..

If a person asks, should I perform Witr before I sleep or in the last part of the night? We say: The Messenger clarified the ruling,

"Whosoever fears he will not awaken in the last part of the night then perform Witr in the first part, and whosoever hopes to wake up in the last part then perform Witr in the last part, since the prayer of the last part of the night is witnessed and that is better."*

COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER

COOPERATE AND WORK TOGETHER

It is imperative that you both cooperate and work together for the greater good, which is to please Allaah, the Glorified and Exalted. This can occur when two righteous spouses help one and other to preserve their prayer and cooperate with each other in whatever pleases Allaah and in whatever averts His displeasure; they should also please Allaah by encouraging one another to pray at night since the night prayer is filled with goodness and blessings and the supplication that is offered in the middle of the night is accepted.

Offering Tahiyyatul-Masjid during the prohibited time

Offering Tahiyyatul-Masjid

 during the prohibited time

Question:

If a man enters the Masjid during a time when it is prohibited to pray, should he offer Tahiyyatul-Masjid (prayer for greeting the Masjid) or not?

Answer:

It is better for the person to offer Tahiyyatul-Masjid according to the more correct of the two opinions of the scholars. This is due to the generality of the prophet's statement:

"When one of you enters the Masjid, he should not sit until he prays two Rak'ahs."

(Al-Bukhari no.1163 and Muslim no. 714)

This Hadith's authenticity is agreed upon (in Al-Bukhari and Muslim). However, if he sits and does not offer the prayer, there is no harm in that.

The Obligation of Seeking Refuge from Four Things Before the Dua’ in Tashahud

THE OBLIGATION OF SEEKING REFUGE FROM FOUR THINGS BEFORE THE DUA’ IN TASHAHUD

The Obligation of Seeking Refuge from Four Things Before the Dua’ in Tashahud

Taken from the ‘Original Sifat as-Salah‘

By Shaykh Muhadith Nasir as-Sunnah Muhammad Nasir- Deen Al-Albaani

Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The Obligation of Seeking Refuge from four things before the Dua’

‘The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to say: ‘If one of you finishes from the [last] (1) Tashahud; then he should seek refuge (2) with Allaah from four things; [he says: ‘O Allaah I seek refuge with You] from the punishment of the Hell-Fire, and from the punishment of the grave, and from the Fitna of life and death, and from the evil of the Fitna (trials) of the Maseeh ad-Dajjal.’ [then he makes Dua’ for himself with that which appears apparent to him (3)] [He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- would make Dua’ with it in Tashahud] (4) [He -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to teach it to his Companions –Radi Allaahu anhum– just as he would teach them a Soorah from the Qur’aan.](5)

_________________

Shaykh Albani’s footnotes:

(1) The benefit of this extra wording is the legislation of this ‘seeking refuge’ in the last Tashahud rather than the first Tashahud; this is in contrast to what Ibn Hazm said in ‘al-Muhalla’ (3/271) and Ibn Daqeeq al-Eid followed him in this, whereby he said: ‘The chosen way is to make Dua’ in the first Tashahud, like making Dua’ in the last Tashahud, due to the general authentic hadeeth:

‘If one of you makes Tashahud; then he should seek refuge with Allaah from …’

Al-Hafidh said in ‘al-Talkhees’ (3/507):

‘And he commented that it is in ‘as-Saheeh’ (al-Bukhari) from Abu Huriara with the wording:

‘If one of you finishes from the last Tashahud; then he should seek refuge with Allaah from …’

Ibn al-Qayyim said in ‘Za’ad’:

‘The Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- did not seek refuge in the first Tashahud – from the punishment of the grave and punishment of the Fire …. Etc.

Whoever recommended saying it, (in the last Tashahud) had understood this standing from the general texts, but the absolute texts indeed correctly clarified its position, and restricted it to the last Tashahud.’

Then al-Hafidh said in ‘al-Fath’ (2/253) after bringing the hadeeth:

‘So in this hadeeth this ‘seeking refuge’ is specified to after finishing the Tashahud; and this Dua’ precedes all other Duas. As for when the person praying is given the permission to choose which Dua’ he wants to supplicate with, then this is after the ‘seeking refuge’ and before giving the Salams.’

I say (Albani): ‘And the extra wording is at the end of the hadeeth – ‘then he makes Dua’ for him-self with what he wants.’ And this is a text to show that seeking refuge is in the second Tashahud.’

(2) This shows clearly that seeking refuge is obligatory and some of the Ahl-ul-Dhahir hold this opinion – and from them is Ibn Hazm (3/271)).

Al-Hafidh said (2/256):

‘Some of the people claimed that there is a consensus that it is not obligatory, however there is a problem with this; because AbdurRazaq narrated with an authentic Isnaad from Tawwoos, indicating that he holds the ‘seeking refuge’ to be obligatory. This was when he asked his son; if he had said it after the Tashahud?

And his son replied: No.

Tawwoos ordered him to repeat the prayer.’

I say (Albani): Indeed Muslim narrated this in his ‘Saheeh’ (2/94) as it came from Tawwoos.

Al-Hafidh said:

‘Ibn Hazm was over generalizing when he said that you should also say it in the first Tashahud.

Ibn al-Mundhir said: if it was not for the hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood whereby he narrated that: ‘then the person has a choice of what to make Dua’ with’ then I would have said it was obligatory.’

I say (Albani): This choice of making Dua’ excludes ‘seeking refuge from these four things’, so due to the evidence this choice of making Dua’ becomes restricted, to be said after finishing ‘seeking refuge from these four things’  – has as preceded – ; so the truth is that it is obligatory, and Allaah knows best.

(3) From the hadeeth of Abu Huraira –Radi Allaahu anhu– collected by Muslim, Abu ‘Awaanah, Ibn Majah and Ahmad.

(4) From the hadeeth of Abdullaah bin Abbas –Radi Allaahu anhu– collected by Abu Dawood and this sanad is Hasan, its narrators are all narrators of Muslim.

(5) From the hadeeth of Abdullaah bin Abbas –Radi Allaahu anhu– collected by Malik and Muslim, and from him Abu Dawood, Nisae’ and Tirmidhi.

IF YOU DO NOT PRAY TODAY, THEN WHEN WILL YOU?

IF YOU DO NOT PRAY TODAY,

THEN WHEN WILL YOU?

It has come from al-Firyābī that he said:

"Sufyān ath-Thawrī used to pray and then turn towards the youth, saying, 'if you do not pray today, then when will you?'"*

*Collected by Abū Nu'aym in Al-Hilyah (7/59).

Sufyān ath-Thawrī advised the youth with a tremendous advice, which is to utilize their lives to obey Allāh. If the young person does not utilize his phase of youth prostrating for Allāh, then he may become weak and enter a phase of his life in which he would love to prostrate but will be unable to because of a weakening of his strength and sickness of his body. So he will not be able to prostrate. For this reason, he said, "If you do not pray today, then when will you?"

Patience, Prayer, Firmness and Listening to Upright Scholars Required When Oppressors Become Extremely Oppressive: [Lessons to Learn From The Behaviour of Ancient Criminals Prior to Their Wretched End]

Patience, Prayer, Firmness and Listening to

Upright Scholars Required When Oppressors

Become Extremely Oppressive: [Lessons to

Learn From The Behaviour of Ancient

Criminals Prior to Their Wretched End]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

[يَـٰقَوۡمِ إِن كُنتُمۡ ءَامَنتُم بِٱللَّهِ فَعَلَيۡهِ تَوَكَّلُوٓاْ إِن كُنتُم مُّسۡلِمِينَ – And Musa (Moses) said: “O my people! If you have believed in Allah, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allah’s Will). [10:84]; Meaning: Place your trust in Allaah, return to Allaah by asking for steadfastness, aid, assistance, victory etc. Then Allaah [The Most High] says that Moosaa’s [alayhis-salaam] people replied, saying: [فَقَالُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوَكَّلۡنَا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجۡعَلۡنَا فِتۡنَةً۬ لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ – They said: In Allah we put our trust. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the folk who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers (10:85)]; Meaning: Do not allow them to overpower us and thus we are put to trial in the affairs of our religion, or that they are given victory and thus we are put to trial and they say, “Had they (i.e. the believers) being upon the truth, they would not have been defeated. [وَنَجِّنَا بِرَحۡمَتِكَ مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡكَـٰفِرِين – And save us by Your Mercy from the disbelieving folk. (10:86)]; Meaning: Save us from their evil, so that we can practice our religion in the correct manner it should be practised- by establishing its laws and being able to manifest it without being opposed or prevented.

Then Allaah [The Most High] says that He commanded Moosaa and Haaroon [alayhimas-salaam], saying: [ وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَأَخِيهِ أَن تَبَوَّءَا لِقَوۡمِكُمَا بِمِصۡرَ بُيُوتً۬ا وَٱجۡعَلُواْ بُيُوتَڪُمۡ قِبۡلَةً۬ وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ‌ۗ وَبَشِّرِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ – And We inspired Musa (Moses) and his brother (saying): “Take dwellings for your people in Egypt, and make your dwellings as places for your worship, and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give glad tidings to the believers].

So when the trial became severe and they faced increased persecution at the hands of Fir’awn and his chiefs, Allaah [The Most High] commanded Moosaa and Haaroon (alayhimas-salaam] to command the believers to take dwellings in which they can perform the prayer when they are unable to perform it their places of worship; for indeed the prayer is an aid in all affairs. And besides this, they were given glad tidings that they will be given victory and that a time is coming in which they will be able to manifest their religion; for ease will come after a period of hardship.

The Terrible Sin of Missing Obligatory Prayers

The Terrible Sin of Missing Obligatory Prayers

Shaykh Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

Ibn al-Qayyim, said:

No Muslims are in disagreement [about the fact] that intentionally leaving obligatory prayers is from the greatest of sins and from the most major of major sins and that its sin is greater than the sin of murder or [unlawfully] taking [others’] wealth; than the sin of fornication and adultery, theft, or drinking alcohol–and that [the one who intentionally leaves a prayer] faces the punishment of Allāh and His wrath, His debasement in this life and the Hereafter.

Shaikh Hammaad al-Ansaaree's encounter with Maududi

Shaikh Hammaad al-Ansaaree's

encounter with Maududi

I visited Maududi (Abul-A’laa Al-Maududi) along with some brothers during the course of his stay in Riyadh and he was in the hotel ‘bat-haa’ so we entered upon him and he was praying the ‘Asr prayer, so I began observing his prayer. So when he finished I said to him:
‘This prayer of yours needs reviewing, for you do not raise your hands, nor do you relax (be at ease) and other than that’

So he said: ‘I am Hanafee in Madhhab’.

So I said to him: ‘this is more overwhelming than the first; since it is impermissible for you to say that, and you are above such a statement. We had come to think from your writings that you are a free-thinker[1], but it has become apparent to us that you are a constricted thinker.’ Then I said to him: ‘indeed Imaam Aboo Haneefah is the one that you blindly follow; yet who are the ones that Imaam Aboo Haneefah blindly followed?’

He remained silent, and Allaah's Aid is sought.

Hadith about ignoring the compulsory prayers...

Delaying prayer due to work

 Delaying prayer due to work

Shaykh Uthaymeen rahimahullah

Question: What is the ruling on delaying prayer due to work?

Answer: “If delaying the prayer is from the beginning of the time until it’s end only; however, he the prayer is in its time, then there is nothing upon him. This is because preceding the prayer to the beginning time is by way of excellence, not obligation. This is if there is no congregation in the masjid. Otherwise, it is obligatory to be present for the congregation, except if he has a need to leave it off.

As for delaying the prayer after its time exits, then this is not allowed. Except if a person forgets or is overcome by work that it distracts from the prayer. The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said:

من نام عن صلاة أو نسيها فليصلها إذا ذكرها
"If any one of you forgets a prayer or sleeps and misses it, let him pray it when he remembers it.’

So this one, when he remembers it he prays it. There is no blame on him. As for if he remembers; however, due to the busyness he is involved in he delays it [after its time] then this is unlawful. If he prays it after the time in this condition, then it is not accepted due to the statement of the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam:

من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
"He who innovates something in this matter of ours (i.e., Islam) that is not of it will have it rejected (by Allah)".

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah mentioned whoever delays the prayer from its time without a legislated excuse, then there is no prayer for him because he removed it from the time which it he was ordered to fulfill it in without a need. So he has come with an action which is not from the affair of Allah and His Messenger. And is the Muwaffaq”.

[Majmoo’ al-Fatwa wa Rasail (12/32)]
