The Prophetic Light [The Sunnah]

 The Prophetic Light [The Sunnah]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [رحمه الله] said:

«فأهل الأرض كلهم في ظلمات الجهل والغي ، إلا من أشرق عليه نور النبوة.»

❝All the people on the earth are in the darkness of ignorance and misguidance except for the one who has the Prophetic light [the Sunnah] radiate upon him.❞

Shaikh Muhammad Bin Rabee' Al Madkhalee (hafithahullah) advised us with a tremendous word of advice, the Shaikh (hafithahullah) said,

I advise you brothers to stick to the Sunnah, hold on to it and don't waiver. Be firm upon the Sunnah and beware of the Haddaadiyyah (those Hizbees who are extreme and accuse Ahlus Sunnah of being people of Bid'ah due to mistakes). Beware of those who are extreme and harsh in their treatment of their Salafy brothers and unjustly accuse them of Tamyee' (being too soft and watering-down the Da'wah). Be firm upon the Sunnah and don't waiver!

From those who were present:

Shaikh Usaamah Al 'Utaybee, Abu Muhammad Naadir Al Jamaykee, Abu Yusuf Khaleefah,Tariq Bin Saidi, Dawud Pearson, Myself (Siddiq) and Others.

When is a person considered to be upon the Sunnah?

When is a person considered

 to be upon the Sunnah?

Sahl bin `Abdullaah al-Tustaree رحمه الله was asked: How can a person know that he is following (Ahl) al-Sunnah wal-Jamaa`ah?

He said: “When he finds for himself ten characteristics:

1. That he does not abandon the Jamaa`ah.

2. And that he does not revile the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

3. And that he does not revolt with (i.e. raise) the sword against this Ummah.

4. And that he does not belie (deny) the Qadr.

5. And does not doubt in (the articles of) Imaan.

6. And that he does not argue in (regards to the matter of) the Deen.

7. And that he does not abandon offering the Salaah (al-Janaazah) for anyone who died from the People of the Qiblah (i.e. the Muslims) due to a sin (which the deceased might have committed).

8. And that he does not abandon wiping over the Khuffs (shoes/socks).

9. And that he does not abandon the (Salaah in) congregation behind the pious or a sinner.”

[Sharh Usool I`teqaad (1/205/324) of Laalikaaee. This is how only 9 points are mentioned]

Question Them About The Sunnah

Question Them About The Sunnah

Hishaam Bin Urwah (rahimahullaah) used to say:

”Do not question the people about what they have innovated today,

because they have prepared answers for it;

rather ask them about the Sunnah because they do not know it.”

FOLLOWING THE MESSENGER

FOLLOWING THE MESSENGER

And they used to urge (people) to (follow) what the
Messenger (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) and his
Companions, radiyallaahu anhum, were upon * due
to His saying:

“And verily, this is my Straight Path, so follow it, and
follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you
away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that
you may become Al-Muttaqoon (pious).”
al-An’aam 6:153

-------------------------------------------------

* And this is where the source of the salvation of
every Muslim lies: in clinging to the Sunnah upon the
way of the Companions of the Messenger (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam), in all matters. The texts supporting
and requiring this are numerous and amongst them
are:

On the authority of Aboo Naajih al-Irbaad ibn
Sariyyah, who said, “The Messenger of Allaah gave us
a sermon by which our hearts were filled with fear and
tears came to our eyes. We said, “0 Messenger of
Allaah, it is as though this is a farewell sermon, so
counsel us.” He said, “I counsel you to fear Allaah and
to give absolute obedience even if a slave becomes
your leader. Verily he among you who lives (long) will
see great controversy, so you must keep to my
Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the rightly guided
Khaleefahs, bite onto it with your molar teeth. Beware
of newly invented matters, for every invented matter is
an innovation and every innovation is a going astray,
and every going astray is in Hell-fire.” Reported by
Aboo Daawood and at-Tirmidhee, who said that it was
hasan saheeh.

The Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “He
who turns away from my Sunnah is not from me.”
Reported by al-Bukhaaree and Muslim.

Aboo Hurairah said that Allaah’s Messenger
(swallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “All of my Ummah

will enter Paradise except those who refuse.” It was
said, “Who will refuse?” He replied, “Whoever obeys
me enters Paradise and whoever disobeys me has
refused.” Reported by al-Bukhaaree.

The Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) said,
Indeed this Ummah will split into seventy three sects
and all of them are in the Fire except for one, and that
is the Jamaa’ah.” Reported by Ibn Abee ‘Aasim in Al-
Kitaab was-Sunnah (1/33), al-Albaanee said, ‘Hadeeth
Saheeh.’

The Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) also said,
“And this Ummah will split into seven three sects,
seventy-two will be in the Fire and one in Paradise and
that is the Jamaa’ah.” Reported by Aboo Daawood in
his Sunan in the ‘Book of Sunnah’ (no. 4597).

Aboo Umaamah reports that the Prophet (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam) “My Ummah will split up into
seventy-three sects, seventy-two in the Fire and one in
Paradise.” We said, ‘Describe them to us.’ He said,
“As-Suwaad al-A‘dham (the Main Body).” Reported by
al-Laalikaa’ee in Sharh Usoolil-I’tiqaad and Ibn Abee
‘Aasim in as-Sunnah.

The Main Body here does not refer to the great
majority of people in every age and era. Rather this is
specific for the era of the Companions and the
Taabi’een. And furthermore, that person is from the
Jamaa’ah who agrees and conforms to the truth.

‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood (d. 32H) said, ‘The Jamaa’ah
is whatever (agrees) with the Truth. Even if you are
alone.’ Reported by Ibn Asaakir in Taareekh-Dimashq
with a saheeh isnaad.

Ishaaq ibn Raahawaih (d. 238H), the teacher of Imaam
al-Bukhaaree, said, ‘If you were to ask the ignorant
people about the Main Body they would say, ‘The
majority of people.’ They do not know that al-
Jamaa’ah is the Scholar who clings to the narrations
from the Prophet (swallallahu alayhi wasallam) and
his way. So whoever is with him (the scholar) and
follows him, then he is al-Jamaa’ah.’ Reported by
Aboo Nu’aym in Hilyatul-Awliyaah.

In the era of the Companions and their Followers, the
Taabi’een, the Main Body in that time were upon the
Truth. This was due to the fact that people were in
nearness to the time of the Messenger (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam) and the Messenger (swallallahu
alayhi wasallam) attested to the credibility of the best
of generations.

As for those who came after them then the fact that
they are many is not to be considered due to the
generality of the texts which give evidence that evil will
increase and spread amongst the people, the Ummah
will split into seventy-three sects and that Islaam will
return as something strange.

Imaam az-Zuhree (d. 125H) said, ‘The people of
knowledge who came before us used to say, ‘Salvation
lies in clinging to the Sunnah.’ Reported by ad-
Daarimee (no.96).

Imaam Maalik (d. 179H) said, ‘The Sunnah is like the
Ark of Noah. Whoever embarks upon it reaches
salvation and whoever refuses is drowned.’ Quoted by
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah in Majmoo’ ul
Fataawaa (4/57).

And Al-Haafiz as-Suyooti quotes in his book, Al-Amr
bil-’Ittibaa wan-Nahi anli-Ibtidaa’, the following
narrations from the Salaf:

Abul-Aaliyah (d. 90H) said, ‘You must stick to the
original state of affairs which they were upon, before
they are divided.’

‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood (d. 32H) said, ‘Moderation
upon the Sunnah is better than exertion in
innovation.’

Al-Awzaa’ee (d. 158H) said, ‘Have patience upon the
Sunnah, and stop where the people stopped (the
Companions) and speak with what they spoke with
and hold back from what they held back and travel
upon the path of the Salaf us-Saalih, for verily, what
sufficed them will suffice you.

Sufyaan ath-Thawree (d. 161H) said, ‘No word or
action will be correct until it conforms with the
Sunnah.’

Stick to the sunnah

Stick to the sunnah

Ibraaheem at-Taymee (Rahimahullah) used to say:

“O Allaah protect me with Your Religion, and with the Sunnah of Your Prophet, from differing regarding the truth, and from the following of desires, and from the paths of misguidance, and from affairs producing doubts, and from deviation and argumentation.”

Importance of asking Allaah for well-being (العافية)

Importance of asking Allaah
for well-being (العافية)

بـسـم الله والحـمـد لله والـصلاة والـسـلام عــلى رسـول الله، وبـعـد

1. On the authority of `Abdullaah ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما that he said: O Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم! What should I ask from Allaah? He صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

سل الله العفو والعافية
“Ask Allaah for al-`Afwa (pardon) and al-`Aafiyah (well-being)”

He asked again: What should I ask Allaah (next)? He صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

سل الله العفو والعافية

“Ask Allaah for al-`Afwa (pardon) and al-`Aafiyah (well-being)”

[Saheeh al-Mawaarid (2052) and graded as “Saheeh li ghairihee” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

2. It was narrated that Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهما said: “The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم never abandoned these supplications, every morning and evening:

اللهم إني أسألك العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة اللهم إني أسألك العفو والعافية في ديني ودنياي وأهلي ومالي اللهم استر عوراتي وآمن روعاتي واحفظني من بين يدي ومن خلفي وعن يميني وعن شمالي ومن فوقي وأعوذ بك أن أغتال من تحتي

(Allaahumma innee as-aluka al-`afwa wal-`aafiyah fee ad-dunya wal-aakhirah. Allaahumma inni as-aluka al-`afwa wal-`aafiyah fee deenee wa dunyaai wa ahlee wa maalee. Allaahumma astur `awraatee, wa aamin raw`aaitee wahfadhnee min bayni yadayya, wa min khalfee wa `an yameenee wa `an shimaalee, wa min fawqee, wa a`oodhu bika an ughtaala min tahtee)

“O Allaah! I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and in the Hereafter. O Allaah! I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religious and my worldly affairs. O Allaah! Conceal my faults, calm my fears, and protect me from before me and behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in You from being taken unaware from beneath me” [Sunan Abu Dawood (5074), Ibn Maajah (3871) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

3. On the authority of `Aaishah رضي الله عنها that she said: Whenever I came to know that it is the night of Laylat al-Qadr, the most I would supplicate is by asking Allaah for al-`Afwa (pardon) and al-`Aafiyah (well-being).” [al-Nasaa’ee in Sunan al-Kubraa, and graded as “Thaabit” (proven) by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (7/1011)]

4. Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq رضي الله عنه climbed the mimber (pulpit) and then wept and said: In the first year (of Hijra), the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم climber the mimber and wept and said: “Ask Allaah for al-`Afwa (pardon) and al-`Aafiyah (well-being), for no one is granted, after certainty (i.e. Islaam), anything better than al-`Aafiyah (well-being).” [al-Tirmidhee (3558) and graded as “Hasan Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

5. Hasan bin `Alee رضي الله عنهما said: The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم taught me some words to say in Witr in Qunoot:

“O Allaah, guide me along with those whom You have guided, protect me (from evil and harm) along with those whom You have protected, be an ally to me along with those whom You are an ally to and bless for me that which You have bestowed. Protect me from the evil You have decreed for verily You decree and none can decree over You. For surety, he whom You show allegiance to is never abased and he whom You take as an enemy is never honored and mighty. O our Lord, Blessed and Exalted are You.”

[Sunan Abu Dawood (1425) and the wordings are his, and Sunan al-Tirmidhee (464), Sunan al-Nasaa’ee (1745) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

6. It was narrated that `Aasim bin Humaid said: I asked `Aaishah رضي الله عنها with what did he - meaning the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم - start Qiyaam Al-Lail (the night prayers)? She said: You have asked me something which no one before you has asked. The Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم used to say the Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar) ten times, the Tahmeed (Al-Hamdulillaah) ten times, the Tasbeeh (Subhaan-Allaah) ten times and the Tahleel (Laa ilaaha illallaah) ten times and the Istighfaar (pray for forgiveness) ten times and say:

اللهم اغفر لي واهدني وارزقني وعافني ، أعوذ بالله من ضيق المقام يوم القيامة

(Allaahumma-ghfirlee, wa-hdinee, wa-rzuqnee, wa-`aafinee, A`oodhu billaahi min dheeqil-maqaami yawmal-qiyaamah.)

“O Allaah! Forgive me, guide me, grant me provision and good health. I seek refuge with Allaah from the difficulty of standing on the Day of Resurrection.)”

[Sunan al-Nasaa’ee (1616) and the wordings are his, Sunan Abu Dawood (766) and Sunan Ibn Maajah (1123) and graded as “Hasan Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

7. Narrated `Abdullaah ibn `Abbaas رضي الله عنهما: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to say (in the prayer) between the two prostrations:

اللهم اغفر لي وارحمني وعافني واهدني وارزقني
“O Allaah! Forgive me, have mercy on me, heal me, guide me, and provide for me.”

[Sunan Abu Dawood (850) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

8. Narated Shakal bin Humaid رضي الله عنه:  I said: O Messenger of Allaah! Teach me a supplication from which I may benefit. He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Say:

اللهم عافني من شر سمعي وبصري ، ولساني وقلبي ، وشر منيي

(Allaahumma `aafinee min sharri sam`ee, wa basaree wa lisaanee, wa qalbee, wa min sharri maniy)

“O Allaah! Protect me from the evil of my hearing, my seeing, my tongue and my heart, and from the evil of my sperm.” – (meaning sexual organ).

[Sunan al-Nasaa’ee (5456, 5484), and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

9. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Whoever comes across a person suffering a calamity and says:

الحمد لله الذي عافاني مما ابتلاك به ، وفضلني على كثير ممن خلق تفضيلا

‘All praise is for Allah Who saved me from that which He tested you with and Who most certainly favored me over much of His creation.’ He will be kept safe from that calamity” [Sunan al-Tirmidhee (3431, 3432) on the authority of Abu Hurairah and `Umar رضي الله عنهما, and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

If they tell you leave out the Qur'an and the Sunnah..

If they tell you leave out the Qur'an

and the Sunnah..

Adh-Dhahabee (rahimahullaah) said:

"If you see the innovative mutakallim saying: 'leave out the Qur'aan and Sunnah and bring forth logic', then know that he is Aboo Jahl. And if you see the 'One on the Spiritual Path', [who claims that by practicing a set of prescribed forms of innovated worship he will attain oneness with Allaah] (i.e. the Soofees) saying: 'Leave us from [knowledge] that is transmitted (i.e. the Qur'aan and Sunnah) and bring forth the 'Taste and Ecstasy of Passion', then know that he is Ibless (Shaytaan) become manifest in human form, or has become incarnate within him; so if you become cowardly then run away from him,. otherwise wrestle him down, and sit on his chest with your knee, and ready ayaatul-kursee, and strangle him."

Regarding the Prophet's (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) Guidance in Visiting the Sick

Regarding the Prophet's (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam)
 Guidance in Visiting the Sick

 by Ibnul Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (rahimahullaah)

He (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to visit those of his companions (radiallaahu 'anhum) who were sick; and he visited a boy who used to serve him from among the People of the Scripture[1], and he visited his uncle who was a polytheist[2], and he invited them both to Islam, and the Jew accepted Islam.

He (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) would come close to the sick person, and sit at his head, and ask him how he was; and he would stroke the sick person with his right hand and say:

Allaahumma Rabban-Nas! Adhhibil-Basa Washfi; Antash-Shafi, La Shifa' Illa Shifa'uka, Shifa'un La Yughadiru Saqman {which means "Oh Allaah, Lord of the people, take away the disease and cure him; You are the One Who cures and there is no cure except Your Cure - a cure that leaves no disease."}[3]

And he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to supplicate for the sick person three times, as when he said (which means): "Oh Allaah! Cure Sa'd" three times." [4]

And when he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) visited a sick person, he would say:

La Ba'sa Tahurun, In sha` Allaah {which means "Don't worry, you will be purified [of your sins] if Allaah wills." [5]

And sometimes, he might say:

Kaffaratun Wa Tahur {which means, "Expiation and purification."}

And he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) used to make incantations (Ruqyah) if someone was afflicted by ulcer, injury or some other complaint. He would place his forefinger on the ground and then he would say:

Bismillaahi, Turbatu Ardina Bireeqati Ba'dina, Yushfa Saqeemuna Bi Idhni Rabbina {which means, "In the name of Allaah, the dust of our earth, and the saliva of some of us cure our patient with the permission of our Lord."}
(This is in the 'Saheehayn' and it negates the wording of the Hadeeth regarding the seventy thousand, in which it is said: "They do not perform Ruqyah" - for this is a mistake on the behalf of the narrator.

And it was not a part of his guidance to reserve a special day for visiting the sick or any special time. Indeed, he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) legislated visiting the sick for his people day and night. He would visit persons suffering from eye disease and other complaints and, sometimes, he would place his hand on the sick person's forehead, then he would wipe over his chest and his stomach and say:

Allaahumma ashfih {which means, "Oh Allaah! Cure him"}, and he would wipe over his face as well.

If he felt that the disease was terminal, he would say:

Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raji'un {which means, "Verily, we belong to Allaah and to Allaah we shall return."}

The Sunnah is Islaam and Islaam is the Sunnah

The Sunnah is Islaam and Islaam is the Sunnah

Imaam al-Barbahaari (rahimahullaah) said:

All praise is for Allaah who guided us to Islaam and blessed us with it and placed us in the best nation, so we ask Him to grant us that we keep to that which He loves and is pleased with and avoid that which He hates and which angers Him.

Know that Islam is the Sunnah, and the Sunnah is Islaam and one of them cannot be established without the other.

Following the authentic Hadeeth and to leave every statement that opposes it

Following the authentic Hadeeth and to
leave every statement that opposes it

Do not look at the Hadeeth, but look at the Isnaad to see if the Isnaad is saheeh, otherwise do not be deceived by the Hadeeth if the Isnaad is not authentic.’

[From: ‘Siyaar ‘Alaam an-Nubala’ 9/188]

2. From Umar bin AbdulAzeez (d. around 100 A.H.) that he wrote to some people:

‘No one can have an opinion against the Sunnah which was established by the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’

[From ‘Jamia Bayyan al-Ilm’ 1/781]

3. From Malik ibn Anas (d. 179 A.H.) who said:

‘Every ones statement can be taken or left except for the inmate of this grave -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.’

[From: ‘Siyaar ‘Alaam an-Nubala’ 8/93]

4. From Uthmaan who said:

‘A man came to Maalik and asked him about an issue. So Maalik said to him: ‘The Messenger of -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said such and such’. The man said to him ‘Do you hold that view?’ Imam Malik said:

5. From Maalik ibn Anas (d. 179 A.H.) who said:

‘The Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- established Sunnan, following them is following the Book of Allaah, and it is completion of obedience to Allaah, and strength upon the Deen of Allaah. It is not permissible for anyone to change it, nor to look into that which opposes the Sunnah. Whosoever seeks guidance by it, then he is guided.’

[From: ‘Siyaar ‘Alaam an-Nubala’ 8/98]

6. From Yahya bin Yahya at-Tameemi (d. 226 A.H.) who said:

[From: ‘Siyaar ‘Alaam an-Nubala’ 10/34]

8. From Maalik ibn Anas (d. 179 A.H.) who said:

‘Indeed I am a human, I can make mistakes, and I can be correct, so look into my opinion, everything that is in agreement with the Book and the Sunnah, then take it, and everything that does not agree with the Book and the Sunnah then leave it.’

The Sunnah Is Strange

The Sunnah Is Strange

Awzaa’ee said, in the explanation of the hadeeth of the strangers:

“Islaam will not disappear, it is Ahlus Sunnah that will disappear to the point that there will only remain one of them in any one country.”

Al-Hasan would say to his colleagues:

“O Ahlus Sunnah! Be gentle with each other, may Allaah have mercy upon you, for you are from the fewest of people!”

[Laalikaa'ee, #19]

Yoonus Ibn ‘Ubayd said:

“There is nothing stranger than the Sunnah and stranger still is the one who knows it”

It is also reported that he said:

“It has come to the point that one who knows the Sunnah will think it is something strange, and stranger than this person is who finds the Sunnah something familiar.”

[Laalikaa'ee, #21 & Ibn Batta, #20]

Sufyaan Ath-Thawree said:

What a Person Can Do to Protect Himself From Magic

A Collection of Guidelines on What a Person

Can Do to Protect Himself From Magic

Compiled by Shaykh ‘Alee bin Ghazi at-Tawayjjari

From the book ‘Tabseer al-Bashr bi-Tahreem as-Sihar’

Translated by Abbas Abu Yahya

The following is a summary of a collection of rulings and benefits:

A- Magic is Haraam and it is not allowed to perform it, nor is it allowed to learn it or teach it. It is not permissible to go to magicians and the like.

B- The disbelief of magicians, the danger of believing in them and clarification of the severity of its sin.

C – Having knowledge of the Tafseer of Allaah’s saying:

{ They followed what the Shayateen (devils) gave out falsely of magic in the lifetime of Sulayman}[0]

Ayaah 102 from Sooratul Baqarah, the reasons for its revelation and the strongest opinion regarding it.[1]

D – Having knowledge of the Tafseer of the story of Musa with Pharaoh and the benefits it contains. Seeking cure and treatment by reciting those Ayaat[2] upon the one who has had magic done to them, such that he will be cured by the permission of Allaah.

E – Magic is a real and tangible entity. That is why it is necessary for the Muslim to fortify himself against it by following what is mentioned in the Sharia’.

As a fortification against it:

1- Implementing Tawheed and sincerity for Allaah Ta’ala.

2- Tawaakul (trusting) in Allaah and relying upon Him, entrusting the matter to Him.

Allaah -Ta’ala- said:

{ And whosoever puts his trust in Allaah, then He will suffice him} [Talaaq: 3]

3- Being continuous regarding the prayers, especially Fajr prayer.
Allaah Ta’ala said:

{Guard strictly the five obligatory prayers especially the middle prayer} [Baqarah: 238]

In the Saheeh of Muslim on the authority of Jundub bin Sufyaan -RadhiAllaahu anhu – who said that the Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said:

‘Whoever prays the Morning Prayer; then he is under the protection of Allaah, so watch, O son of Aadam, so that nothing can take you away from Allaah’s protection.’[3]

4- Reading Sooratul-Baqarah in your home:

The Messenger - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ‘Do not make your homes like graves. Indeed the Shaytaan flees from the house in which Sooratul-Baqarah is read.’[4]

He - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – also said: ‘Read Sooratul-Baqarah, since taking it is blessed and leaving it is grief and the Batlah (magicians) cannot read it.’[5]

Muawiyah[6] said: ‘It has reached me that the Batlah are the magicians.’

5- Reading Ayaatul-Kursi after every obligatory prayer after the legislated ‘Adhkaar (supplications) which follow giving the sallam in prayer.[7] What indicates this is the saying of the Messenger - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam: ‘Whoever reads Ayaatul-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer; nothing will prevent him from entering Paradise except death.’[8]

6- Reciting Ayaatul-Kursi when going to sleep. This is what Bukhari narrated with an incomplete chain on the authority of Abu Huraira -RadhiAllaahu anhu – who said: The Messenger of Allaah appointed me to look after the Zakat of Ramadan, so someone came to me to take some food….’ then he mentioned the hadeeth and in it: Shaytaan said: ‘When you go to your bed then recite Ayaatul-Kursi, indeed it will be protection from Allaah for you and the Shaytaan will not be able to come close to you until the morning!’ Abu Huraira let him go and in the morning he informed the Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – of what he had said: The Prophet - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: He spoke the truth even though he is a liar.’[9]

7- Reading the last two Ayaat of Sooratul-Baqarah: What is narrated by Bukhari and Muslim on the authority Abu Mas’ood al-Ansaari -RadhiAllaahu anhu – who said the Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ‘Whoever reads the last two Ayaat from the end of Sooratul-Baqarah at night then they will be sufficient for him.’[10]

8- Reading the last three Soorah of the Qur’aan in the morning and evening:

What has narrated by Abdullaah bin Khubbayb -RadhiAllaahu anhu – who said: ‘We went out on a very dark rainy night seeking the Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – for him to lead us in prayer.’

The Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ‘Say.’

But I did not say anything.

Then he - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said:

{Say: He is Allaah, the One} [Soorah Ikhlaas] and the last two Soorahs three times when you reach the evening and the morning, they will be sufficient for you against everything.’[11]

9- Reading the last three Soorah of the Qur’aan after every prayer:

What has been narrated by ‘Uqbah bin ‘Aamir -RadhiAllaahu anhu – who said: ‘The Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – commanded me to read the last three Soorah of the Qur’aan after every prayer.’[12]

10- A Muslim should say:

‘In the name of Allaah with Whose Name nothing whatsoever on this earth or in the heavens is harmed and He is The All Hearing and All Knowing.’

Bismil-lahil-lathee la yadhurru ma’a ‘issmihi shay’un fil ‘ardhi wa la fissama’i wa huwa ‘as-samee’ul –‘aleem

Three times in the morning and evening.[13]

11- Seeking much refuge in Allaah with: ‘The perfect Words of Allaah from the evil of what He has created’ in the night and the day, when stopping to rest in a building, a desert, in the sky or sea, due to the saying of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-:

‘Whoever stops at a place on his journey and then says: -

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect Words of Allaah from the evil of what He has created –

A’outhu bikalimatil-lahi ‘at-taammati min sharri ma khalaqa

nothing will harm him until he leaves that place.’[14]

12- To eat seven Ajwa dates from al-Madinah in the morning, due to the saying of the Messenger -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam-:

‘Whoever eats seven Ajwa dates in the morning, neither poison nor magic will harm him on that day.’[15]

Or he can eat seven dates from the land of al-Madinah due to what Imaam Muslim narrated on the authority of the Prophet -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- who said:

‘Whoever eats seven dates from the land of al-Madinah in the morning then poison will not harm him until the evening.’[16]

The great scholar Ibn Baz held the opinion that it is hoped that this protection is also for the one who eats seven of any type of date even if they are not from the dates of al-Madinah.

13- Purifying your home from pictures and statues due to what is narrated by Muslim on the authority of Abu Huraira -RadhiAllaahu anhu - who said that the Messenger of Allaah - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said: ‘Angels do not enter a house where there are statues or pictures.’[17]

So the presence of pictures and statues in a house prevents the Angels from entering that home and a home that the Angels do not enter is easily entered by the Shayateen (devils).

This fortification is not just specific to magic rather it is for repelling evil in general, and from the evil that it repels is magic.

14-From this fortification is saying: ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaahu wahdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadeer’

‘There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah Alone, He has no partners, to Him belongs the Dominion and for Him is all praise and He is capable of all things,’

one hundred times.
Indeed the one who says it, then it is a protection for him against Shaytaan during that day.[18]

15- From this fortification is saying: ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaahu wahdahu la shareeka lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyee wa yumeet wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadeer’

‘There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah Alone, He has no partners, to Him belongs the Dominion and for Him is all praise, He gives life and He takes life and He is capable of all things.’

ten times after the Fajr and Maghrib prayers. Indeed for the one who says this it will be protection for him against every disliked thing and a guard against Shaytaan.[19]

All Praise belongs to Allaah, may His peace and blessings be upon our final Prophet Muhammad, his family, his companions and all those who follow his guidance.

[0] << They followed what the Shayateen (devils) gave out falsely of magic in the lifetime of Sulayman. Sulayman did not disbelieve, but the Shayateen disbelieved, teaching men magic and such things that came down at Babylon to the two angels, Haroot and Maroot, but neither of these two (angels) taught anyone (such things) til they had said, “We are only for trial, so disbelieve not (by learning this magic from us).” And from these (angels) people learn that by which they cause separation between man and his wife, but they could not thus harm anyone except by Allaah’s Leave. And they learn that which harms them and profits them not. And indeed they knew that the buyers of it (magic) would have no share in the Hereafter. And how bad indeed was that for which they sold their own selves, if they but knew. >> Ayaah 102 from Sooratul Baqarah
[1] Shaykh ‘Alee at-Tawayjari mentions: ‘All the different narrations mention that the Shayateen practised the magic and that they lied and ascribed it to Sulayman –alayhi sallaam. He is free of that just as Allaah freed him of it with what He revealed to His Messenger of the Ayaah which is mentioned.’ Reasons for its revelation p.57 ‘Tabseer al-Bashr bi-Tahreem as-Sihar’
