CALAMITIES BEFALLS PEOPLE ACCORDING TO THEIR SINS

 CALAMITIES BEFALLS PEOPLE

ACCORDING TO THEIR SINS

It is possible that an old man is humiliated, despite his old age, to the level that people feel sorry for him while he does not realise that what he suffers at old age is because of his negligence to Allāh's rights when he was at a youthful age.

Thus, whenever you see someone is being punished, know that this punishment is due to a sin that he previously committed.

On Your Devil

On Your Devil

Ibn al-Qayyim said,

“So whoever does not punish his devil in this abode through the remembrance of Allaah تعالى and tawheed, and seeking forgiveness from Him and obeying Him, then his devil will punish him in the Hereafter with the torment of the Fire—so everyone must punish his devil or else his devil will punish him.”

Badaa’i’ut-Tafseer, vol. 5, p. 450.

Music and the downfall of the nation

Music and the downfall of the nation

بسم الله والحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله ، وبعد

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“And it is known, to the specific and the people in general, that the Fitnah of listening to music and singing is greater than the Fitnah of lamenting* by a large degree.

And what we have witnessed, we and those other than us, and what we came to know through experience is that: Singing and musical instruments have not appeared in a nation, and it spread among them, and they got busy in them, except that Allaah تعالى allowed the enemies to overpower them and afflicted them with famine, poverty and corrupt rulers.

The person of sound intellect contemplates and sees the state the world is in – and Allaah’s help is sought.”

[Madaarij al-Saalikeen (1/496)]

*Lamenting by wailing loudly, beating the cheeks and tearing the clothes are from the acts of the days of ignorance (Jaahiliyyah). In those days women were hired to wail at the death of someone.

I saw during my night journey some men whose lips were being clipped with clippers of fire. I said, ‘Who are these people, Jibreel?’ He replied, ‘These are the people from your followers who gave sermons commanding the people with righteousness, yet forgetting to practice it themselves.

Greatest type of punishment

Greatest type of punishment

Shaikh Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said,

“Many people think that being punished [for one’s sins] is only in those things that are external, like the body, wealth and children, but the reality is that the punishment of the sickness of the heart and its corruption is more severe and greater than the punishment through those things.”
