How to Conquer a Whole City

How to Conquer a Whole City

‏ Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

” مخالفة الهوى تورث العبد قوة في بدنه وقلبه ولسانه ، وقال بعض السلف:” الغالب لهواه أشد من الذي يفتح المدينة وحده “.

‘Opposing following one’s desires breeds strength into the body of the worshipper, his heart and upon his tongue. Some of the Salaf said: ‘The one who conquers his desires is stronger than the one who single handedly conquers a whole city.’
[Ghithaa al-Albaab by as-Safareeni 2/457]

‏قال الامام ابن القيم :

” مخالفة الهوى تورث العبد قوة في بدنه وقلبه ولسانه ، وقال بعض السلف:” الغالب لهواه أشد من الذي يفتح المدينة وحده “.

The Diagnosis and the Cure

The Diagnosis and the Cure

It is reported that Qatādah – Allāh have mercy on him – said:

Verily the Qurān guides you to your disease and your treatment: as for your disease, it is your sins; and as for your treatment, it is to seek the forgiveness of Allāh.

Al-Bayhaqī, Shuʿab Al-Īmān 9:347 no. 6745.

“…his sadness is in his parting with the worldly life.”

“…his sadness is in his parting with the worldly life.”

Ibn al-Jawzee رحمه الله said:

“Indeed, I see the majority of the people, when they are stricken with illness, they would sometimes preoccupy themselves with (feelings) of anguish and in complaining, and sometimes they would preoccupy themselves with medication.

So preoccupation with the severity (of the illness) diverts them from the beneficial commandments, performance of good deeds or preparation for death. And how many (a person) has sins which he has not repented from, or a trust which he has not returned, or a debt, or zakaat (to pay), or a misdeed in a responsibility of his, which he has not realized; rather his sadness is in his parting with the worldly life. He has no interest other than (the sadness felt due to parting with this world), and perhaps he may regain health and command with wrong doing.

The reason for this is a weakness in eemaan, as Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, said:

فَأَعْرِضْ عَن مَّن تَوَلَّى عَن ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلاَّ الحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا
ذَلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُم مِّنَ العِلْمِ

‘Therefore withdraw (O Muhammad) from him who turns away from Our Reminder (this Qur’aan) and desires nothing but the life of this world. That is what they could reach of knowledge.’
[an-Najm: 29-30]

Indeed, this is common amongst the majority of the creation, and we seek Allaah’s protection from being forsaken. Therefore, it is incumbent upon a cautious person that he is prepared when in a state of good health before a state of poor health.”

A Man Saying, "Laa: Wa Abika, No: By Your Father"!

A Man Saying, "Laa: Wa Abika,

 No: By Your Father"!

Imaam Bukhaari rahimahullah

Chapter 335: A Man Saying, "Laa: Wa Abika, No: By Your Father"

778.  Abu Hurayra said: "A man came to the Messenger of Allah (صلي الله عليه وسلم) and said, 'Messenger of Allah, which sadaqa has the best reward?' He answered, 'Wa abika. By your father, you will learn of it. 'It is that you give sadaqa while you are healthy and avaricious, fearful of poverty and desirous of wealth. You should not delay it until you are at the point of death and then say, "This much is for so-and-so. This much is for so-and-so when it already belongs to so-and-so." ' "

The Ruling on Praying While Wearing Socks that Have a Foul Smell?

Shaikh Abdul-Aziz ala Shaikh  حفظه الله

Question: The questioner says: what is the ruling on praying with socks which emit a foul smell?

Answer: “By Allah, if there is a foul smell, then what is more deserving is to remove them. This is because the congregants will be harmed by this harmful smell, even you will be harmed. If there is a foul smell, then removing them is better and you should wash your hands. As for wearing them and there is a foul smell [emitting from them], then it will harm some of his neighbors who are in the row”.

Greatest type of punishment

Greatest type of punishment

Shaikh Uthaymeen, may Allaah have mercy on him, said,

“Many people think that being punished [for one’s sins] is only in those things that are external, like the body, wealth and children, but the reality is that the punishment of the sickness of the heart and its corruption is more severe and greater than the punishment through those things.”

Undergoing Afflictions

Undergoing Afflictions

Ibn al-Qayyim:

The soul will never become pious and purified except through undergoing afflictions. It is the same as gold that can never be pure except after removing all the base metals in it.
