Q 5: It is widely common among people that they may say, before going to sleep, “O guardian angels, wake me up at such-and-such a time.” 

A: This is not permissible, in fact, it is a form of major Shirk (associating others in worship with Allah), because it is beseeching others than Allah (عزوجل) and asking a favor from the unseen such as the Jinn (creatures created from fire), idols, and the deceased people...

Questioner: Can people see the angels?

Al-Albaani: In the form Allaah created them in, no. In forms which they may imitate, then of course.

And Ai’ishah, may Allaah be pleased with her, and others saw Jibreel in the form of Dihyah al-Kalbi. As for seeing Jibreel in his original form, then that was not granted to anyone except the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.

Q: Is it true that angels do not attend women's learning circles, if the women do not wear Hijab (veil)?


A: I do not know of any basis for this. It is permissible for women to recite the Ever-Glorious Qur'an and make Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah) even if they do not wear Hijab, provided that they are not in the presence of a non-Mahram (not a spouse or an unmarriageable relative) and this does not withhold the angels from attending their circles. May Allah grant us success!

س: هل صحيح أن جلسات الذكر النسائية لا تحضرها الملائكة إذا كانت النساء كاشفات لشعورهن (أي غير متحجبات)؟

ج: لا أعلم لهذا أصلاً، ولهن أن يقرأن ويذكرن الله عز وجل وإن كن كاشفات رءوسهن إذا لم يكن عندهن أجنبي.. ولا يمنع ذلك من دخول الملائكة. والله ولي التوفيق.
