“He Who Knows Allah Is Fully Preoccupied”

“He Who Knows Allah Is Fully Preoccupied”

🔸Mālik ibn Dīnār used to say:

مَنْ ‌عَرَفَ ‌اللَّهَ ‌فَهُوَ ‌فِي ‌شُغُلٍ ‌شَاغِلٍ،

وَيْلٌ لِمَنْ ذَهَبَ عُمُرُهُ بَاطِلًا

"He who knows Allah is fully preoccupied. Woe to the one whose life passes in vain."

🔸 ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Rawwād said to a man:

مَنْ لَمْ يَتَّعِظْ بِثَلَاثٍ لَمْ يَتَّعِظْ بِشَيْءٍ:

الْإِسْلَامُ، وَالْقُرْآنُ، وَالشَّيْبُ.

“He who is not admonished by three will not be admonished by anything: Islam, the Qur’an, and grey hair.”

Let Islam guide you. Let the Qur’an warn you. Let your grey hairs humble you.

Are Extreme Sports and Other Risky Activities Allowed?

Are Extreme Sports and Other

 Risky Activities Allowed?

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaimīn

Question:

Is it allowed to take risks or put oneself in danger as we see nowadays in some forms of extreme sports that could lead to death for those practicing them?

Answer:

[Shaikh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ Al-ʿUthaimīn, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:]

This is prohibited [in Islam]. It is not allowed for a person to put himself in danger by way of things in which loss of life or injury are feared since Allāh, High is He above all, says:

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا

And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allāh is Ever-Merciful with you and Caring. (Al-Nisāʾ, 29)

And if Allāh, High is He above all, has forbidden that—He said [what in English means], “Do not kill yourselves”—then, indeed, everything that leads to death or [even] leads to injury is no doubt prohibited [in Islam].

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, your blood, wealth, and honor are all, upon you, inviolable.”[1] So just as it is not permissible for a person to transgress against another, it is not permissible for him to transgress against himself by exposing himself to [activities] that contain a [risk of] death or injury.

The worldly-life is treacherous

The worldly-life is treacherous

Al-Hasan al-Basri, [may Allāh bestow mercy upon him], said:

“[The worldly-life is treacherous], therefore be cautions, for it is like a snake, smooth to the touch, but its venom is deadly.”

URGES THAT ARE NEVER SATISFIED

URGES THAT ARE NEVER SATISFIED

A person should be affiliated with the Hereafter by seeking knowledge, pursuing an understanding of the religion and endeavoring to obey the Lord of all creation. The narration of Ibn Mas'ūd (رضي الله عنه) is relevant in this regard wherein he said:

"Two peoples' urges that are never satisfied: The one seeking knowledge who consequently increases his efforts in pleasing Allāh, and the one seeking the worldly life consequently indulging in transgression."

THIS LIFE IS LIKE YOUR SHADOW

THIS LIFE IS LIKE YOUR SHADOW

This life is like your shadow; if you turn your back to it and walk away from it, it will continue following you, but if you try to chase it and catch it, it will always run away from you. For this Allāh, Exalted is He, Commanded this worldly life to serve those who serve Him, and to enslave those who serve it.

The pious does not pay attention to his shadow, therefore the shadow always follows him, while the one seeking it diligently all the time keeps looking around for it, and is thus unable to see it.

THE SIMILITUDE OF THIS WORLD

THE SIMILITUDE OF THIS WORLD

The similitude of this world is like that of a vessel filled with honey. The flies see this vessel and fly toward it. Some of them sit on the edge of the vessel and take from the honey until they satisfy their needs, and then they fly away. Some of them are led by their greed to plunge themselves into the abyss of the honey. Their submersion into the honey prevents them from enjoying it, except for a brief enjoyment, until they perish in the middle of it.

HOW CAN YOU WALK WITH PRIDE WHILE FORGETTING THE BEGINNING OF YOUR CREATION?

HOW CAN YOU WALK WITH PRIDE

WHILE FORGETTING THE BEGINNING

 OF YOUR CREATION?

I wonder at him who is fond of his own image and walks with pride while forgetting the beginning of his creation.

His life starts with the small bite of bread, a couple of dates, a piece of meat and some milk that were consumed with a sip of water; afterwards is filtered through the liver and extracted from it are drops of semen that settle in the testicles, which later on are moved by the excitement of his lust to eject out of him and into the mother to remain for a while before the foetus is developed; coming out through the channel of urine as a child.

As for his end, he is thrown in dust to be eaten by worms and becomes ashes the wind blows!

AS IF YOU HAD NOT HEARD OF THE NEWS OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE..

AS IF YOU HAD NOT HEARD OF

THE NEWS OF THE PEOPLE BEFORE..

The wonder of all wonders is that you are pleased with your arrogance (ghurūr), and your indulgence into idle play while overlooking what has been hidden for you! You are fooled with your health and seem to forget that sickness is near; and you rejoice for your wellness all the while you fail to notice the pain that is yet to come. Verily, the death of others was just to remind you of your own death, and the death of others was only to remind you of your death! Your indulgence in fulfilling your desires averts you from remembering the destruction of your essence.

Two Appetites Are Never Satisfied

 Two Appetites Are Never Satisfied

The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Two hungry ones are NEVER satisfied, the one who is hungry for knowledge is never satisfied and the one hungry for Dunyā (worldly possessions) is never satisfied.”

THE PLACES OF RESIDENCE ARE THREE: IBN UL-QAYYIM

THE PLACES OF RESIDENCE ARE

THREE: IBN UL-QAYYIM

Shaikh Salih al-Fawzaan mentioned in his explanation of Kitab at-Tawhid under the chapter [The Virtues of Tawhid and that which it Expiates from Sins], “The places of residence – as ibn ul-Qayyim mentioned – are three;

The First: The residence of this world, and it is the residence of actions and gaining [good deeds].

The Second: The residence of the Barzakh, and that is the residence within the graves, a barzakh between this world and the Hereafter. The term barzakh means a “divider” or “barrier” [i.e. the life within the graves is the seperator between this world and the Hereafter], and the life within the graves is [therefore] termed as the life of the barzakh. Within it are amazing affairs; in it is blessing or punishment, either a pit from the pits of the Hell-Fire, or a garden from the gardens of Paradise. The dead remain in their graves until Allah the Mighty and Majestic wishes to resurrect and gather them for accountability and recompense…[and so] this residence is a waiting station [until resurrection].

The Third: The residence of recompense, which is the Day of Judgement, [either] Paradise or Hell; and this residence does not perish nor cease ever. If a person believes in these two abodes [Paradise and Hell], then indeed that will cause a person to perform righteous actions and [seek] repentance from sins and wrong-doing. So if he is certain that Paradise exists, and that he cannot enter this Paradise except with righteous actions – then [surely] he will act [upon righteousness]. [Similarly] if he is certain that Hell exists and that he will enter it [if he performs] sins, disbelief and evil actions – then [surely] he will be wary and cautious of that and repent to Allah the Mighty and Majestic.

Therefore, eemaan in Paradise and Hell causes the slave to perform righteous actions and to seek repentance from sins and evil actions, as for the one who does not believe in the Hereafter, then this one will act in accordance to what his desires dictate to him and what his soul craves and he will not hold himself accountable [and reflect] ever”.

FILL YOUR DEPOSIT BOXES!!

FILL YOUR DEPOSIT BOXES!!

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān:

Reflect on the rapid passing of the nights and days, indeed this is your life (passing you by). These (night and days) are the deposit boxes of your actions. On the day of resurrection these boxes will be opened. The believer will find in his boxes, honour and nobility, whilst the negligent find in their boxes, humiliation and degradation.

Therefore, fill these boxes with the taqwa of Allah (subhānahu) and righteous actions before (these boxes) are closed due to the end of your life.

In this world the believer is like the stranger

In this world the believer is like the stranger

Al hasan

“In this world the believer is like the stranger. He does not become upset when it degrades/humiliates him, nor does he compete with others in chasing after its grandeur. For the people are in one state and his is in a totally different state.”

The power of Dunya

The power of Dunya

Ibn al-Jawzi رحمه الله said:

Dunya is Greater Magic than Haaroot & Maaroot, Haaroot & Maaroot separated a man from his wife whilst the Dunya separates a slave from his Lord.

Poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i: "Let days go forth.."

Poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i: "Let days go forth.."

A beautiful poem by Imaam ash-Shafi'i (rahimahullah)

Let days go forth and do as they please
And remain firm when settled is the Decree

Don't be afraid of what happens by night
For the affairs of this world are not to last

And be a man, strong in the face of calamities
And let your nature be that of kindness and honesty

If your faults become too much in front of the people
And you wish that they were to be concealed,

Then know that kindness covers all faults
And how many faults are kept hidden by kindness!

No sadness lasts forever, nor any happiness
And you shall not remain in poverty, or any luxury

Generosity cannot be hoped from the miserly
For no water exists in the Fire for the thirsty

Your provision will not be decreased due to life's delays
And it cannot be increased due to your haste

If, in your heart, you possess contentment
Then you and those who possess the world are equal

And for him upon whose horizon death descends,
No earth can offer him protection, nor any sky

Indeed, the earth of Allah is certainly vast
But if decree descends, then the world constricts

Let days be the ones that betray you at all times
For no cure can avail a person of death

A benefit from the explanation of hadeeth “the dunyaa is the prison of believer”-Ibn Qayyem rahimahul-llaah

Jannah

Imaam Ibn Qayyem Al-Jawziyyah rahimahul-llaah said in Badaa’i’ul-Fawaa’id, vol 3:

There are two sound explanation of “the dunyaa is the prison of believer”:

1-The belief of believer restrains him from the prohibited, while the disbeliever acts loosely.

2-Considering the consequences, if the believer is the most luxurious in dunyaa, it will be his prison compared to his abode in Paradise. And the disbeliever is his opposite, if he is the most miserable in dunyaa, it will be his paradise compared to his abode in hellfire.

And in the footnote of this benefit:

A Jewish slave asked a prestigious Muslim scholar about this hadeeth looking at their conditions, and the scholar replied on spot: “when you meet the torment of Allaah tomorrow, this [dunyaa] would be your paradise. And when I meet the luxury of Allaah tomorrow, this [dunyaa] would be my prison”. At-Tabaqaat As-Saniyyah by At-Tameemee 4/60.

The Salaf and the Way They Valued Time

The Salaf and the Way They Valued Time
Source: 'Wisdom of the Wise' by 'Abdul-'Aziz ibn Nasir al-Jalil & Baha Addin ibn Fatah Aqeel

Al-Hasan al-Basri said: "Oh son of Adam, you are but few days, whenever a day is gone, part of you is gone too." [1]

Al-Hasan al-Basri said: "I met some people who were more stingy with their time than their money." [2]

Al-Hasan al-Basri advised his companions saying: 'Do not be occupied with ephemeral worldly pleasure and forget the Hereafter, your life is short, so hurry up and do not postpone today's work till tomorrow, because you do not know when you will die and meet Allah." [3]

Al-Qasim ibn Asa'kir was informed that Sulaim ibn Ayyub used to give much importance to his time. He never wasted any time without some useful acts. He either wrote books, gave lectures, or read." [4]

Abu al-Wafa' Ali ibn Aqeel said: 'I am not allowed to waste an hour of my life. Even when I am not giving lectures or reading, my mind will still be occupied with some issues while I am lying down; and I will not get up until I find something useful to write. And I still find myself striving for knowledge in my eighties more than when I was in my twenties.' [5]
