The Remedy for Whispering (of Satan) in the Prayer

The Remedy for Whispering

 (of Satan) in the Prayer

Question:

When I begin to pray, I am afflicted by a kind of whispering and thoughts, and sometimes I do not know what I have recited, nor how many Rakahs I have prayed. Please tell me what I should do.

Answer:

It is prescribed for the worshipper - man or woman - to approach the prayer with humility towards Allaah and to call to mind that he stands before his Lord, so that Satan will stay away from him and the whispering will be reduced, in implementation of Allaahs Words: Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their prayers with all solemnity and full submissiveness. [1] If the whispering becomes frequent, it is prescribed to seek refuge with Allaah from Satan, as the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) ordered Uthman bin Abi Al-As, when he informed him that Satan had confused his prayers. And when the worshipper becomes uncertain as to the number of Rakahs he has prayed, he should assume the minimum, base his estimation upon what he is sure of, and then complete his prayer. Afterwards he performs two prostrations of forgetfulness before making the Taslim, based upon the narration of Abu Said, may Allaah be pleased with him, from the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam) in which he said: If any of you is in doubt regarding his prayer, and he does not know how much he has prayed, three or four (Rakahs) then let him cast aside doubt and base his estimation upon what he is sure of. Then prostrate twice before making the Taslim, if he has prayed five, his prayer will be an intercessor for him, and if he has completed the prayer correctly, it will be a humiliation for Satan. [2] And Allaah is the Granter of success.

Are Extreme Sports and Other Risky Activities Allowed?

Are Extreme Sports and Other

 Risky Activities Allowed?

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaimīn

Question:

Is it allowed to take risks or put oneself in danger as we see nowadays in some forms of extreme sports that could lead to death for those practicing them?

Answer:

[Shaikh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ Al-ʿUthaimīn, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:]

This is prohibited [in Islam]. It is not allowed for a person to put himself in danger by way of things in which loss of life or injury are feared since Allāh, High is He above all, says:

وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا

And do not kill yourselves. Indeed, Allāh is Ever-Merciful with you and Caring. (Al-Nisāʾ, 29)

And if Allāh, High is He above all, has forbidden that—He said [what in English means], “Do not kill yourselves”—then, indeed, everything that leads to death or [even] leads to injury is no doubt prohibited [in Islam].

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Indeed, your blood, wealth, and honor are all, upon you, inviolable.”[1] So just as it is not permissible for a person to transgress against another, it is not permissible for him to transgress against himself by exposing himself to [activities] that contain a [risk of] death or injury.

There Is No Sin Upon You

There Is No Sin Upon You

Question:

We had birds that we kept in a cage; daily, we would feed them, give them drink, and release them in the morning so they can cool themselves in the air. One day, however, we forgot to release them, and the sunheat affected them, resulting in their death. We regret having kept them in cages; please advise us ý do we have to make any atonement?

Answer:

If the situation is as you have described, there is no sin upon you, for Allaah Almighty says: Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error. [1] In an authentic Hadith, Allaahs Messenger related that Allaah Almighty responded to the invocation in this verse by saying, I have done so. [2] This was recorded by Muslim in his Sahih, and it shows that Allaah Almighty answers the supplication of his believing worshippers. And with Allaah is the facilitation to do what is right.

[1] Al-Baqarah 2:286. [2] Meaning, I punish you not when you forget or fall into error.

What Does It Mean If a Person Dies Suddenly?

What Does It Mean If a Person Dies Suddenly?

Question:

Is sudden death one of the signs of Resurrection [approaching], and is there anything that can protect [one] from [this kind of death]? Is seeking refuge from it enough?

Shaikh Ibn Bāz, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

Some ḥadīths indicate that sudden death will become frequent toward the end of time—a wrathful seizure with regard to the wicked; a relief with regard to the believer. So a believer might suddenly be struck dead due to a stroke or some other cause: [that] is a relief for him and a blessing from Allah upon him, since he had already prepared himself, become rectified, got ready for death, and exerted himself in doing good. So he is taken suddenly while in a good state, upon righteousness and good deeds, and is spared the agonies, difficulties, and hardships of dying.

And [sudden death] can happen to the wicked [as well], but, [in their case], it is a seizure of wrath upon them—they are seized suddenly while in the most evil of states. We ask Allah to keep us safe from harm, [and] we seek Allah’s protection.

Should 'Eid Ever Happen To Fall On a Friday

Should 'Eid Ever Happen To Fall On a Friday

If Al-Jumu'ah and Al-'Eid come together on the same day, then the Scholars have three sayings with regards to it. The third of them; which is correct is that: whosoever attends the 'Eid, then the Jumu?ah falls away from him. However; it is upon the Imaam to establish the Jumu'ah prayer, to allow anyone to wishing to attend to do so ? as well as those that did not attend the 'Eid.

Since this is what has been conveyed from the Prophet (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and his companions, there is no differing known amongst the companions in that. So one who does not attend the Jumu'ah prayer instead prayers Dhuhr ? thus the Dhuhr is prayed in its time.

Celebrating Valentine’s

Celebrating Valentine’s

Questioner:

Celebrating Valentine’s Day has recently become widespread, especially amongst female students. It is a Christian celebration and they celebrate it by wearing completely red attire consisting of red clothing and red shoes, and by exchanging red flowers. We would like from your eminence a clarification of the ruling on celebrating these kinds of events. Also, what is your advice to the Muslims regarding these kinds of affairs? May Allāh preserve you and look after your affairs.

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaimīn:

Celebrating Valentine’s Day is not permissible from a number of angles.

Firstly, it is an unorthodox celebration that has no basis in Islamic rules and customs.

Secondly, it encourages excessive passion and infatuation.

Thirdly, it encourages a person to preoccupy his heart with the likes of these lowly affairs that are in opposition to the guidance of the righteous predecessors, may Allāh be pleased with them.

So it is not permissible to initiate on this day anything symbolic of a celebration, whether it be supplying food, drink or clothing, exchanging gifts or anything else.

A Muslim must derive honour from his religion and not be a yes-man, who follows all and sundry. I ask Allāh the Most High that He protects the Muslims from all trials and tribulations, both apparent and hidden, and that He takes care of us by taking charge of our affairs and leading us to success.

The Crescent Moon is not an Islamic Symbol Explained by Shaykh Salih Fawzan

The Crescent Moon is not an Islamic Symbol

Explained by Shaykh Salih Fawzan  حفظه الله

Question: May Allah reward you with good and treat you well. Why do the Muslims symbolize the crescent moon on the minarets of their Masjids?

Shaykh Fawzan: This is a custom they have taken and observed it. There is no basis for it from the standpoint of the religion. It is nothing more than a custom.

Failing to fast in Ramadan

Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan [حفظه الله] said:

❝Failing to fast in Ramadan without a [legitimate] excuse is a grave error and a huge crime. Whoever does this must make sincere Tawbah, regret what he has done, never do it again, and never miss another fast. He must also make up for the missed days.❞

The Ruling of the One Who Doesn’t Pray But Fast In Ramadaan (Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan may Allaah preserve him)

The Ruling of the One Who Doesn’t Pray But Fast In Ramadaan (Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan may Allaah preserve him)

Questioned posed to al-Allaamah Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan (may Allaah preserve him)

Q. What is the ruling of the one who fast the blessed (month of) Ramadaan without praying at all with no (legislated) excuse, knowing that we have advised him many times, but he has not listened?

A. The one who waste the prayer, the fast nor any other action is considered sound (i.e. accepted) from him. That is because the one who abandons the prayer has disbelieved and the action that comes from the disbeliever is not sound (i.e. accepted). The prayer is the second pillar from the pillars of Islaam and the fast is the fourth pillar. Therefore the prayer is given precedence over the fast and it is the pillar of Islaam.

Therefore the one who doesn’t pray, his fast or any other action is not accepted from him. Upon him is to repent to Allaah The Glorified and Most High and preserve the five daily prayers. Then after that, he preserves the rest of the affairs of his religion from the fast and other than it.

As long as he is not praying he is not a Muslim and his actions are not accepted from him. The prayer is the pillar of Islaam. Does a building stand without a pillar!? This is impossible.”

The Believing Jinn Help The Believers Even Though The Believers May Not Realize It – Shaykh Ibn Baz

The Believing Jinn Help The Believers Even Though The Believers May Not Realize It

– Shaykh Ibn Baz

Shaykh Ibn Baaz:

The Muslims help their brothers among the jinn to obey Allaah and His Messenger just as they help their human brothers. Humans may help them in some matters without realizing it. They may help them to obey Allaah and His Messenger by teaching and reminding other humans, for the jinn may attend the lessons of humans in the mosques and elsewhere and benefit from them. Humans may also hear some things from the jinn which benefit them; they may wake them up to pray or draw their attention to things which may benefit them or harm them. All of this happens even though the jinn do not make themselves visible to humans. A jinn may make himself visible to some people when pointing them towards something good or something evil. This may happen, although it is rare. Usually they do not appear to humans, although their voices may be heard on some occasions when they wake a person for prayer or tell him of some things. In conclusion, the believing jinn help the believers even though the believers may not realize it, and they love everything good for them.

They may attend lessons, and they love to listen to the Quraan and knowledge, as stated above. The believers among the jinn attend the lessons of humans, at some times and in some lands, and they benefit from the lessons of humans. All of this happens and is well known. This has been clearly stated by many of the scholars whom the jinn contacted and asked about some issues; they told them that they had attended their lessons. All of this is well-known, and Allaah is the One Whose help we seek.

Ruling regarding the one who becomes angry when an affliction befalls him

Ruling regarding the one who becomes angry when an affliction befalls him

Question: What is the ruling regarding the one who becomes angry when an affliction befalls him?

Answer: People are upon 4 levels regarding the circumstances of affliction:

The First Level: Being angry, and this is in various ways:

The first type: That the anger is by the heart as if he is angry at his Lord. So he becomes angry with what Allaah has decreed for him, and this (level) is haraam. And it is possible that this could lead to kufr (disbelief). Allaah said: “And among mankind is he who worships Allaah as it were, upon the very edge (i.e. in doubt); if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him, he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts back to disbelief after embracing Islaam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter.” - Al-Hajj (22):11

The second type: That the anger is by the tongue like making duaa for destruction or ruin and what is similar to that, and this is haraam.

The third type: That the anger is by the limbs like slapping the cheeks, ripping the clothes, pulling out hair, and similar to that, and all of this is haraam in contradiction to patience which is waajib (obligatory).

The Second Level: Being patient, just as the poet said:

“Patience is like its name - bitter in taste, yet its outcomes are sweeter than honey.”

So the person sees this thing (the affliction) weighs very heavy upon him, yet he bears it although he dislikes that it happened. Rather, his eemaan bears it and restrains him from being angry. So the time of affliction and the time of no affliction is not the same to him, and this (level) is waajib, because Allaah commanded the people to be patient, saying: “…and be patient. Surely, Allaah is with those who are As-Saabireen (the patient ones, etc.).” - Al-Anfaal (8):46

The Third Level: Being pleased with the affliction in that the person is pleased with the affliction and whether it happened or not, it is the same to him so he it is not difficult upon him. He does not bear it as if it is something weighing heavy on him, and this (level) is mustahabb (preferred - between haraam and waajib) and it is not waajib according to the most correct opinion. The difference between this level and the one before it is apparent because the affliction happening or not happening is the same due to the pleasure of the one on this level. As for the level before it, the affliction is hard upon him, yet he remains patient over it.

The Fourth Level: Thanking/being grateful and this is the highest level. This is that the person thanks Allaah for the affliction which has struck him in that he knows that this affliction is an expiation for his sins and perhaps a cause for an increase in his good deeds. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

“There is no affliction which strikes the Muslim except that Allaah expiates with it (sins), even with a thorn that may poke him.” (Recorded by Bukhaari and Muslim)

Ibn Uthaymeen regarding islamic nasheeds

 Ibn Uthaymeen regarding islamic nasheeds

Question: Noble Shaykh, Muhammad Saalih al-'Uthaymeen, as-Salaam 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahe wa-barakaatuhu. Is Islaamic inshaad (singing/chanting) permissible for men? And is it permissible to accompany inshaad with the playing of the duff? Is inshaad permissible for other than `Eeds and parties?,

Response: In the Name of Allaah, All Gracious, All Merciful, as-Salaam 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahe wa-barakaatuhu. Islaamic inshaad is an innovation, resembling that which the Soofiyyah (Soofees) have invented. Because of this, it is befitting to abandon this for the message of the Qur.aan and Sunnah. O Allaah, were it that this had occurred on the battlefield then it would motivate courage and Jihaad in the Path of Allaah, the Almighty. Then this is good. And if the duff is used along with this, then this is (venturing) further from that which is correct. ,

The Salaf did not used to sing Anasheed and call them as “religious” – Shaykh al Albaani

Shaykh al-Albânî: There are no doubts that poetry exists in Islâm. The messenger (sallâ Allâhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There is poetry that most certainly is wisdom.”

However, that one sings the poetry and calls it as “Anâshîd” and “Religious Anâshîd”, then it is something our righteous Salaf (predecessors) did not know of at all. This, in fact, has a connection to the principle we mentioned earlier and which is a summary of that which the scholars always speak of in similar contexts, namely:

All good lies in following the earlier ones and all evil lies in that which the later ones have innovated

The Salaf did not used to sing Anâshîd and call them as “religious”.

 _____________________________

As a side note, the Shaykh (al-Albânî) deemed singing to be allowed on some occasions, when he said:

“In these Hadiths and narrations exists an apparent evidence for it being allowed to sing without music on some occasions such as when one is thinking about death, longs for the family or home country, relaxes a little, gets away from the difficulties of the trip and the like.” (Tahrim-ul-Alat, p. 129, afatwa.com)

Wake me up at such-and-such a time

Wake me up at such-and-such a time

Q 5: It is widely common among people that they may say, before going to sleep, “O guardian angels, wake me up at such-and-such a time.”

A: This is not permissible, in fact, it is a form of major Shirk (associating others in worship with Allah), because it is beseeching others than Allah (عزوجل) and asking a favor from the unseen such as the Jinn (creatures created from fire), idols, and the deceased people...

People who claim to have Karamahs and miracles

People who claim to have Karamahs and miracles

9-The answer to a question about people who claim to have Karamahs and miracles:
From `Abdul-`Aziz ibn `Abdullah ibn Baz to our dear brother, may Allah protect you. May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you.
With reference to your letter, dated 25/9/1973, in which you ask for help to be able to come to Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, you mentioned a supplication in the letter and said that it is a blessed supplication full of Karamahs and miracles which Allah gives to His believing servants. You said that this supplication is extremely powerful to the extent that if it is recited on fire, it will be extinguished, and if it is recited on flowing water, it will become stagnant.
I would like to inform you that this supplication is not authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him). As far as we know, it is baseless. Moreover, it includes impermissible kind of Tawassul (supplicating to Allah in the name of someone or something). The lawful Tawassul is to supplicate to Allah (Exalted be He) by His Names. Allah (Glorified be He) says: And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allâh, so call on Him by them Likewise,
(Part No. 1Page No. 442)
it is permissible to beseech Allah by your good deeds, including the best of them, i.e. Tawhid (belief in the Oneness of Allah). The most beneficial supplications are those reported to be said by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), not those invented by people, as the supplication you referred to. It is obligatory to learn the necessary religious knowledge, asking the scholars about what seems difficult for you and keep away from what contradicts the teachings of the Chosen Prophet (peace be upon him).
As for your desire to come to Al-Madinah while you do not have enough money, I advise you to adhere to righteousness wherever you are. Allah does not make offering Hajj obligatory except for the people who have the capacity to offer Hajj. Allah (Exalted be He) says: And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka‘bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allâh, for those who are able to undertake the journey. So, you are excused from it and when you have enough money, you can came to the holy land, for Allah does not burden someone beyond their scope. May Allah's Peace, Mercy, and Blessings be upon you.

The Fitnah of the Dajjal

The Fitnah of the Dajjal

Question: We hear about the Dajjaal and the Fitnah (tribulations) surrounding him, from which the Messenger (peace be upon him) sought refuge (in Allah), and we have been commanded to seek refuge (in Allah) from his fitnah. So who is the Dajjaal? And what are his attributes?

Answer: Dajjaal is a man who will appear towards the end of time, and Jews will follow him. His appearance is a sign of the Last Hour, and he will bring with him immense Fitan (tests and trials) which will have an adverse effect on the Iman (of Muslims). Quite possibly many people may perish because of his Fitnah, except those whom Allah protects. As for his attributes, he would be a Kafir man, blind in one eye. He will seek to divert people from their religion by whatever means possible. So his Fitnah and danger will be immense. It is obligatory upon us to seek refuge in Allah from his Fitnah, as we have been commanded (to do so) by the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Reading The Qur’aan At The Graveyard

Reading The Qur’aan At The Graveyard

Shaykh Muhammad Al-Uthaymeen [رحمه الله] said:

❝As for the graveyards then they are not a place for reading of the Qur’aan, but rather they are a place for giving Salam upon the dead and making Dua for them, not a place for making Dua, nor to make Dua to them.

So the deceased are not to be made Dua to, nor to make [general] Dua at their graveside. But rather Dua is made for them for mercy and forgiveness because they are in dire need of Dua.❞
