Friday is called Al-Jumu`ah

Friday is called Al-Jumu`ah because it is derived from Al-Jam`, literally, gathering. The people of Islam gather weekly, on every Friday in the major places of worship. It was during Friday when Allah finished the creation, the sixth day, during which Allah created the heavens and earth. During Friday, Allah created Adam, and he was placed in Paradise, and ironically, it was a Friday when he was taken out of Paradise. It will be on a Friday when the Last Hour will commence. There is an hour during Friday, wherein no faithful servant asks Allah for something good, but Allah will give him what he asked for. All of this is based upon Hadiths in the authentic collections. In the ancient language Friday was called, `Arubah. It is a fact that previous nations were informed about Friday, but they were led astray from it. The Jews chose Saturday for their holy day, but Adam was not created on Saturday. The Christians chose Sunday, which is the day the creation was initiated. Allah chose Friday for this Ummah, because it is the day the creation was finished .Al-Bukhãri and Muslim recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah said,

(We are the last (to come) but the first on the Day of Resurrection, though the former nations were given the Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them, but they differed about it. So, Allah gave us guidance to it, and all other people are coming after us: the Jews tomorrow and the Christians the day after tomorrow.''

This is the wording of Al-Bukhãri in another narration of Muslim;

(Allah diverted those who were before us from Friday. For the Jews there was Saturday, and for the Christians there was Sunday. Allah then brought us and guided us to Friday. He made them; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and it is in this order they will come after us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of among the people of this world and the first among the created to be judged on the Day of Resurrection.)

Ghusl for Jumu’ah...

Doing ghusl for Jumu’ah is prescribed as Sunnah when getting ready to go to the prayer

better life | via Tumblr

Does the obligatory ghusl done before Fajr exempt one from also having to do ghusl for Jumu’ah, or not?

The Sunnah is to do ghusl on Friday when getting ready to go to Jumu’ah, and it is preferable to do that when one is about to head for the mosque, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When any one of you goes to Jumu’ah, let him do ghusl.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Jumu’ah, 882 – this version was narrated by him; Muslim, al-Jumu’ah, 845).

If one does ghusl at the beginning of the day, that is sufficient, because ghusl on Fridays is a confirmed Sunnah (Sunnah mu’akkadah), and some scholars said that it is obligatory. So this ghusl should be done regularly on Fridays, preferably when one is about to set out for the mosque, as stated above, because this is more clean, and more likely to put a stop to offensive odours. One should also take care to apply perfume and wear nice clothes. When setting out for the mosque one should take care to be solemn in one’s demeanour, and to make his stride short, because each step wipes out a bad deed and Allaah raises a person one degree thereby. So he should proceed in a solemn and careful manner. When he reaches the mosque, he should enter with his right foot first, send blessings and peace upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and mention the name of Allaah, and say, “A’oodhu Billaah il-‘Azeem wa bi wajhih il-kareem wa sultaanih il-qadeem min al-shaytaan il-rajeem; Allaahumma iftah li abwaab rahmatika (Is seek refuge with Allaah the Almighty and in His noble Face and His eternal Dominion, from the accursed Shaytaan; O Allaah, open to me the gates of Your mercy).” Then he should pray as much as Allaah wills he should pray. He should not push between two people. After that he should sit and wait, either reading Qur’aan, or reciting dhikr and prayers for forgiveness, or in silence, until the imaam comes. He should listen attentively when the imaam gives the khutbah, then he should pray with him. If he does that then he will have attained a great deal of good. It says in a saheeh hadeeth that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does ghusl, then comes to Jumu’ah and prays whatever Allaah wills that he should pray, then listens attentively to the khateeb until he finishes the khutbah, then prays with him, will be forgiven his sins between that and the other Friday plus three days.” (Narrated by Muslim, al-Jumu’ah, 1418). That is because a good deed earns a tenfold reward.

Ghusl for Jumu’ah begins...

Ghusl for Jumu’ah begins...

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Ghusl for Jumu’ah begins at the break of dawn, but it is better not to do ghusl until after the sun has risen, because the day has certainly begun after sunrise, and because the time before sunrise is the time for Fajr prayer, and the time for Fajr prayer has not ended yet, so it is better not to do ghusl until after the sun has risen. Then it is better not to do ghusl until the time for going to Jumu’ah, so that he will be going to Jumu’ah immediately after purifying himself. End quote.

Majmoo’ Fataawa Ibn ‘Uthaymeen, 16/142

Friday ghusl is not obligatory upon a woman

Friday ghusl is not obligatory upon a woman

Q: “Is the Friday bath (ghusl) obligatory upon a woman?”

Shaikh al-Albaani:

“If the Friday prayer fundamentally is not obligatory upon her, then how can the subsidiary issue (the bath) be obligatory when the fundamental (the prayer) isn’t?”[1]

[1] Shaikh Bin Baaz, Shaikh Ibn al-`Uthaimeen and Shaikh Fawzaan likewise said that the Friday bath is specifically for men – those who must attend the Friday prayer – not women.

HUSBANDS: BEAUTIFY YOURSELVES FOR YOUR WIVES AND HELP IN THE HOME

HUSBANDS: BEAUTIFY YOURSELVES FOR YOUR WIVES AND HELP IN THE HOME

moments. | via Tumblr

Allah says:
“And the women have the same rights as those that are over them from what is reasonable.”
[Sooratul-Baqarah 2: 228]
Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer in his explanation of this verse said:
“It means that they have rights over the men similar to the rights that the men have over them. So giving each other their mutual rights is obligatory from what is reasonable…
Wakee’ said on the authority Basheer ibn Sulaymaan, on the authority of ‘Ikramah, on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas who said:
“Verily I love to beautify myself for my wife  just as I love my wife to beautify themselves for me because Allah says:
“And the women have the same rights as those that are over them from what is reasonable.”
[Sooratul-Baqarah 2: 228]
If a man beautifies himself, it helps the woman in lowering her gaze and it helps to bring the hearts close together.
Some men go to their wives and they are unkempt, dirty, and foul smelling. He bathes and perfumes himself to go out with his friends, but when he returns he is as I mentioned earlier which causes dislike in the heart and disgust in the soul.
Just as you ask your wife, when she is in front of you, to be beautiful looking and pleasant smelling, she also asks this of you. She has feelings just as you do, and she has senses just as you do. Men, fear Allah in yourselves and in your women.”
Helping her with housework
‘Aa’ishah (radiallaahu anha) was asked, “What does the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) do with his family?” She said: “He was busy with his family until it was time to pray and then he prayed.” [Saheeh al-Bukhari]
On the authority of al-Qaasim, on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah (radiallaahu ‘anhaa) that he asked, “What did he Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) do in his house?” She said: “He was a man among men, he cleaned his garment, he milked his sheep and he served himself.” [Ahmad with an authentic chain]
On the authority of ‘Urwah ibn az-Zubayr, on the authority of ‘Aa’ishah (radiallaahu ‘anhaa) that he asked, “What did the Messenger of Allah  (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) do in his house?” She said: “He mended his garment, patched his shoes and he did in his house what men do in their houses.” [Ahmad with an authentic chain]
The female student of Islamic knowledge especially needs her husband’s help in raising the children and caring for them, in order for her to study from the Qur’an and Sunnah what is needed for her to practice her religion and assist her in bringing up her children in a proper and sound way. We ask Allah to guide our men.

WHICH IS BETTER FOR A MUSLIM WOMAN, SEEKING KNOWLEDGE OR TAKING CARE OF THE HOUSE?

WHICH IS BETTER FOR A MUSLIM WOMAN, SEEKING KNOWLEDGE OR TAKING CARE OF THE HOUSE?

Untitled

Question: Which is better for a Muslim woman, taking care of her house and husband, or devoting her time to seeking knowledge, and bringing a servant to take care of the house?
Answer: Yes, it is obligatory for a Muslim woman to strive to understand her religion as much as possible, but serving her husband, obeying her husband and raising her children are also important obligations. She should make time to learn every day, even if it is only a little. Or she should put aside some time for reading and then the rest of her time will be for her daily work. In this way she will not be neglecting learning and she will not be neglecting her work and children and leaving them to a servant to look after. Seeking balance in this matter, by setting aside time for learning, even if it is a little, and time for her housework, will be sufficient for her.

2) Residing in their lands and not moving from their lands to the lands of the Muslims to save one’s Deen (i.e, hijrah).

3) Travelling to the lands of the kuffaar for tourism and vacation.

Does the punishment of the grave include the disobedient mu’min or is it specific for the kaafir?

Does the punishment of the grave include the disobedient mu’min or is it specific for the kaafir?

Author: Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaymeen
Source: Majmoo' Fataawa wa Rasa'il - Volume Two, Number 154

Question: Does the punishment of the grave include the disobedient mu’min or is it specific for the kaafir?
Answer: The ceaseless punishment of the grave is for the munaafiq (hypocrite) and for the kaafir (disbeliever).
As for the disobedient mu’min (believer) then he may be punished in the grave because it is established in the Saheehain (the two Saheehs) from the hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas (رضى الله عنهما) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) while passing by two graves said: “They (their occupants) are being tormented, but they are not tormented for a grievous sin. One of them did not keep himself safe from being defiled by urine and the other carried tales (nameemah).” [1]
And it is well known that they (the occupants of the graves) were Muslims.

[1] Reported in Saheeh Bukhaari and Muslim. Narrated Ibn ‘Abbaas: The Prophet once passed by two graves and said, “These two persons are being tortured not for a major sin (to avoid). One of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other used to go about with calumnies (to make enmity between friends).” The Prophet then took a green leaf of a date-palm tree, split it into (pieces) and fixed one on each grave. They said, “O Allaah’s Apostle! Why have you done so?” He replied, “I hope that their punishment might be lessened till these (the pieces of the leaf) become dry.”

Useful advice to students of knowledge concerning their wives and families.

2412 | via Tumblr

The truth my brothers, is that whoever has been provided with a woman, who is a student of knowledge, then indeed he has been provided with much goodness. So it’s binding upon him to honour her and to thank Allah for this blessing. I remind myself and my brothers, on this occasion, that it is binding upon us to fear Allah with our women.

A lot of Muslims (men) have good character, good actions and everybody loves being close to him except his family because when he enters the house he changes. In front of other people he is from the best and gentlest of people. Smiling much and soft in speech. But when he enters his house he changes and becomes angry, he gets angry for the smallest of things, he swears about the smallest of things, he fights about the smallest of things.

We must fear Allah in the apparent and hidden. Our condition shouldn’t change: in front of people and likewise when we are in our houses, our condition is one. We are observant of Allah. We must honour the women of house: our wives, sisters, daughters, and mothers also. Treat them how they ought to be treated. As I said, if the wife is a student of knowledge, this is a great blessing. She supports you in obeying Allah and supports you in goodness. So be thankful to Allah for this blessing, honour her and also, support her in seeking knowledge.

BEAUTIFUL EXPLANATION BY SHAYKH ALBAANEE ON PHOTO TAKING!

BEAUTIFUL EXPLANATION BY SHAYKH ALBAANEE ON PHOTO TAKING!

Untitled

Among the scholars who have discussed the issue of photography is Shaykh Naasir al-Deen al-Albaani, who said:

“Some of them differentiate between hand-drawn pictures and photographic images by claiming that the latter are not products of human effort, and that no more is involved than the mere capturing of the image. This is what they claim. The tremendous energy invested the one who invented this machine that can do in few seconds what otherwise could not be done in hours does not count as human effort, according to these people! Pointing the camera, focusing it, and taking the picture, preceded by installation of the film and followed by developing and whatever else that I may not know about… none of this is the result of human effort, according to them!

Some of them explain how this photography is done, and summarize that no less than eleven different actions are involved in the making of a picture. In spite of all this, they say that this picture is not the result of human action! Can it be permissible to hang up a picture of a man, for example, if it is produced by photography, but not if it is drawn by hand?

Those who say that photography is permitted have “frozen” the meaning of the word “tasweer,” restriciting it only to the meaning known at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and not adding the meaning of photography, which is “tasweer” or “picture-making” in every sense – linguistic, legal, and in its harmful effects, and as is clear from the definition mentioned above. Years ago, I said to one of them, By the same token, you could allow idols which have not been carved but have been made by pressing a button on some machine that turns out idols by the dozen. What do you say to that?”

Are you allowed to say (Pope Johannes Paulus) that he will go to the hellfire, given that he died as a non-muslim?

Question: The leader of misguidance the Pope Johannes Paulus has died. Are you allowed to say that he will go to the hellfire, given that he died as a non-muslim?
Answer: What do you know regarding whether he died as a non-muslim or not? You can not confirm this. You can not be sure that he died as a non-muslim. You can not confirm the paradise or hellfire for someone who the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم   has not confirmed it for. You can not confirm that he died as a non-muslim. Allah knows best. Therefore, you can not confirm that he was going to hell. This is along the principle that you can not confirm anything about an individual. In general, the non-muslims, Christians and Jews end up in hell. But when it comes to individuals, you do not know in what condition they are dying in. You must hope for the best for the pious and fear the worst for the sinner. The fact that you say that Johannes [Paulus] will go to the hellfire is wrong. It is possible that he will go to the hellfire. Allah knows best. You can also say that he will go to the hellfire if he died as a non-muslim and that he ends up in paradise if he repented. But, you should not confirm anything without proof.

REGARDING SISTERS BEING ALONE IN A CAR WITH A DRIVER

Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Ibraheem Aal-Shaykh رحمه الله  says:
“There is no doubt that a woman being alone with a taxi man in his taxi is unlawful. No doubt he will befriend her, which would lead to corruption especially if she is a very shy modest person. So how would it be if the driver is not too religious, immodest and has no shame?! So O Noble Sister in Islam, fear Allah The Exalted, and be not lax regarding such affairs such as the people are. What is important is what your deen tells you, not the custom of the people.”
[Majmoo' Al-Fataawaa, 1/152]
This fatwaa is based on the words of the Prophet
“It is not permissible for a man to be alone with a woman…“

Part 1: Explanation of the hadith: “None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself”

Explanation of the hadith: “None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself”

“...It is also recorded in the Two Sahihs from Anas رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said,

“None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”  (1)

This hadith dictates that one implement the rights of his brother Muslim, both the specific and general, for this is from faith. Whoever does not do this, not loving for his brother what he loves from himself, has neglected and obligatory part of faith. Indeed his faith is defective and the degree of this defectiveness varies in accordance to the obligatory rights that he has neglected.
______________________________________________________

(1)al-Bukhari [13] and Muslim [45].
al-Kirmani رحمه الله said, “Also from faith is to hate for his brother what he hates from himself of the evil. This has not been mentioned in this hadith because the love of something necessarily implies the hatred of its opposite, hence there was no need to explicitly mention it. Allah knows best.” Quoted by Ibn Hajr, Fathu-l-Bari [1/58].
An-Nasa’i and others mention an additional wording to this hadith having a sahih isnad, “from the good”. This is an important addition for it serves to precisely define the meaning of the hadith for the word “good” encompasses all actions of obedience, all permissible affairs and excludes all the prohibited matters. Refer to al-Albani, as-Sahihah [1/155].

Shaykh Uthaymeen’s explanation:

How does the Muslim connect his ties of kinship if his relatives are non-Muslims?

Question: How does the Muslim connect his ties of kinship if his relatives are non-Muslims?

Answer by ash-Shaikh Dr. Saalih bin Sa’ad as-Suhaymi حفظه الله (Lecturer at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah)

1. Supplicate for their guidance,
2. Show them good characteristics. So that Allah can put the truth in their heart,
3. Visit their sick,
4. And call them to Islam.

This is something binding upon you to do.

Stay overnight in the house of a Christian neighbour

ash-Shaikh Mohāmmād bin ‘Abdillāh al-Imām - حفظه الله - Teacher at Dar al-Hadeeth, Ma’bar (Yemen).

Question from Indonesia:  Is it permissible to stay overnight in the house of a Christian neighbour and perform supererogatory prayers in it, knowing that there are crosses inside the house?
Answer: If a person stays at the house of a Christian, for one reason or another, and he needs to pray, it’s required that the place is pure. And the presence of the cross in the home does not affect the person’s prayer as it has no connection to the cross nor does he glorify it or anything. It is permissible to the extent needed. It’s known that the cross is the idol the Christians worship. But as long as this has nothing to do with the cross,  then this does not affect his prayer.

Who will the unmarried woman be with in Paradise?

Who will the unmarried woman be with in Paradise?

Purple, pink and white Wisteria arches. Take me here and ... | Wedding

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked: If a woman is one of the people of Paradise and she did not get married in this world, or she got married but her husband does not enter Paradise, who will she be with?
He answered:
“The answer is based on the general meaning of the verses in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Therein you shall have (all) that your inner-selves desire, and therein you shall have (all) for which you ask” [Fussilat 41:31] and “(there will be) therein all that inner-selves could desire, and all that eyes could delight in and you will abide therein forever” [al-Zukhruf 43:71].
So if a woman is one of the people of Paradise and she did not get married, or if her husband is not one of the people of Paradise, when she enters Paradise there will be men who did not get married, and those men will have wives from among the hur al-‘iyn and wives from among the people of this world if they wish. Similarly with regard to the woman who did not have a husband, or who had a husband in this world but he did not enter Paradise with her, if she wants to get married then she will inevitably have what she desires, because of the general meaning of these verses”

The ruling on copying voices of famous recitors- collection of fatwas from major scholars

The ruling on copying voices of famous recitors- collection of fatwas from major scholars

Islam in Korea (Korean Muslim) | via Facebook

Bismil-llaah, wal-Hamdulil-llaah, was-Salaatu was-Salaamu ‘alaa Rasoolil-llaah,
Imam Muhammad Naasirud-Deen Al-Albaanee rahimahul-llaah was asked: What is the ruling on copying the voices of recitors?
And he replied:
“I can not find an answer to this question other than his saying peace is upon him: “I and my Ummah are free from pretension”  [this hadeeth has been weakened by An-Nawawee and Al-Haafith Al-'Iraaqee. And stronger that it is the hadeeth of 'Umar: "we have been prohibited from pretension to the guest" As-Silsilah As-Saheehah 2392]  That is one thing, the other thing, it is feared that this will lead to a fitnah where the point of reciting is forgotton and copying becomes the origin and I remembered when you asked this question some lecturers who who copy the Egyptian Kushuk. So the book of Allaah is too noble and too exalted to be recited by copying others. And there is one last thing, his saying peace is upon him: “the best from people to recite whom if you hear him reciting you see him fearing Allaah” And those imitators can not be seen doing so” [Sahihul-Jaami' 2202]. Fatwas of Juddah, tape no 4, minutes 34.39 unti 36.9
Imam Muqbel bin Haadee Al-Waadi’ee rahimahul-llaah was asked: what is the ruling on copying the voices of recitors?
And he replied:
“The advice we give is not to copy because this may distract the person from pondering the Qur’aan and Allaah says: {Do they not reflect upon the Qur’aan, or are there lock upon [their] hearts} Muhammad 24. And bigger than that is if he is copying someone who can carry on reciting until the end of verse and he is weak and unable to do that, so he may go into pretension and harm himself. Yes, it does not reach prohibition but the advice we are giving is not to copy”.
The ‘Al-llaamah Saalih bin Fawzaan Al-Fawzaan hafithahul-llaah was asked: what is your opinion regarding copying the recitors in our era, there are some Imams who copy some recitors in their recitation particularly during the Taraweeh prayer?
And he answered: “there are two kinds of copying the recitors, a one in which he is copying them to perfect the Tajweed and recitation. This is a must-do, the person benefits from the recitors and he reads the Qur’aan correctly. As to copy the voices of recitors, elong the Qur’aan, repeat and prolong on people, this is detested. It causes boredem to the listeners, makes it hard on those who are lead in prayer and brings about a hardship on people”.
The ‘Al-llaamah Bakr bin Abdul-llaah Abu Zayd rahimahul-llaah said in his book Tasheehud-Du’aa (correcting the Du’aa’) p300-318: “the observer will nto find a letter that the companions and those who came after them copied a person who has a pleasant voice when it comes to reciting the Qur’aan. And if it there is, it would have been transmitted, and if it was there then it would have been more incumbent to copy the best whom read the Qur’aan, our Prophet peace is upon him”.
And he said: “in addition, there is a sense of a humiliating subjugation in copying the good voice, and the law instill in souls dignity, honor, elevating brains and singling the following to the way of Prophet-hood alone”.
And he said: “and ponder, is he whom you copied copying someone else or is it out of what he has been gifted from Allaah?”.

And Allaah knows best.
