Secret Tears

 Secret Tears

Muhammad b. Wāsi’ said:

I have lived amongst men who were such that one of them would lie with his wife on the same pillow and his side of the pillow would be soaked with his tears under his cheek without his wife even noticing.

Ibn Abī Al-Dunyā, Al-Ikhlās wa Al-Nīyah (Sincerity and Intentions) p34.

Self-amazement

Self-amazement

Bishr Ibn Haarith [رحمه الله] said:

❝Self-amazement is that you consider your deeds to be many and make little the deeds of the people or the deeds of others besides yourself.❞

STRENGTH IS NOT IN HARSHNESS

STRENGTH IS NOT IN HARSHNESS

Whoever has a despicable character, little dignity and no mercy then this will appear in his dealings with those who are weak. Rather, treating the weak unjustly is the way of the weak. If they truly had a strong, tough character, then they would not treat those deserving of mercy harshly. That is why whosoever controls himself when interacting (with the weak) then their excellence is evident.

PUT A SMILE ON HER FACE

PUT A SMILE ON HER FACE

The Prophet (ﷺ) urges men to enjoy women with their crookedness. When she is angry, he should be relaxed. When she gives a long face, he should meet her with a smiling face. Were he to treat her as she treats him, their dispute, disagreement, quarrel, and insult would last for a long time. They may not find someone who gives him a ruling that his divorce is ineffective, so problems will begin.

The rational man can easily put a smile on his wife's face because any good word, especially from her husband, pleases her. Likewise, every bad word makes her angry.

How to Conquer a Whole City

How to Conquer a Whole City

‏ Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

” مخالفة الهوى تورث العبد قوة في بدنه وقلبه ولسانه ، وقال بعض السلف:” الغالب لهواه أشد من الذي يفتح المدينة وحده “.

‘Opposing following one’s desires breeds strength into the body of the worshipper, his heart and upon his tongue. Some of the Salaf said: ‘The one who conquers his desires is stronger than the one who single handedly conquers a whole city.’
[Ghithaa al-Albaab by as-Safareeni 2/457]

A Prophetic Condemnation of Racism

A Prophetic Condemnation of Racism

Ibn ‘Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) gave a sermon to the people on the day of the conquest of Makkah, and he said: “O you people! Verily Allāh has abolished the arrogance of pre-Islamic ignorance from you, and its reverence to your forefathers. So, now there are two types of men: A man who is righteous, has piety and is honourable before Allāh, and a wicked man who is miserable and insignificant to Allāh. People are children of Ādam and Allāh created Ādam from the earth. Allāh said: {O you people! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allāh is the one who has most piety. Verily, Allāh is ‘Alīm [All-Knowing], Khabīr [Perfectly Aware]} (49:13).”

Ibn al-‘Arabī said in commentary of this narration:

“During the days of pre Islamic ignorance, nobility would be based on particular features as opposed to piety. So Allāh nullified all forms of pride and nobility based on inherent or inherited features and only left that [nobility] connected to piety; which is to obey Allāh and adhere to His legislation. Whereby the origin of man is one, from clay. And their father is one, Ādam, who is the origin [from which humans were born], Ādam and Ḥawa” [Eve].

Becoming preoccupied with the flaws of others

Becoming preoccupied with the flaws of others

Al-Imām ibn al-Qayyim, [may Allāh have mercy on him], said:

“Blessed is the one whose own shortcomings keep him occupied, preventing him from focusing on the faults of others. Woe to the one who neglects their own flaws and becomes preoccupied with the flaws of others.

The former is a mark of true happiness, while the latter signifies wretchedness!”

Powerful Advice from a Nurturing Scholar: Avoid Anything that Causes Worry, Sadness, & Distress

Powerful Advice from a Nurturing Scholar: Avoid Anything that Causes Worry, Sadness, & Distress

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Strive to distance yourself from anything that brings worry, sorrow, or distress so that you may always remain at ease, with a content and open heart, focused on Allah, His worship, and your worldly and spiritual affairs. If you practice this, you will find relief. However, if you burden yourself with regret over the past or excessive concern for the future in a way not sanctioned by Islamic teachings, know that you will exhaust yourself and miss out on much goodness.”

(Fath Dhi al-Jalali wal-Ikram 3/533).

Our Rights

 Our Rights

Ibn Al-Qayyim [رحمه الله] said:

‎«إذا تأملت حال أكثر الناس وجدتهم ينظرون في حقهم على الله وﻻ ينظرون في حق الله عليهم .»

❝When you reflect upon the condition of the majority of the people you find that they look for their right upon Allaah but they do not look for Allaah's right upon them.❞

WHO DO YOU ASK FOR ADVICE?

WHO DO YOU ASK FOR ADVICE?

The person who has a secret, as we previously described, should tighten his chest, but if he feels he must share his secret, he should do so by consulting someone who is religious, intelligent, and beloved, and he should never seek advice from someone who does not possess these three characteristics. If he is not religious, he will betray him; if he is not intelligent, then he will make a mistake regarding the correct course; and if he is not loved, then he may not give him sincere advice.

BE PATIENT AND THANKFUL

BE PATIENT AND THANKFUL

Allāh made it an obligation for the one experiencing hardship to be patient, and this is something beloved to Him. Likewise, He also made it an obligation for the one who is blessed to be thankful and this is also something loved by Him. Therefore, both patience and gratitude must be loved and acted upon.

The Key

 The Key

Imām Ibn Taimiyyah, may Allāh have mercy on him, said:

Truthfulness is the key to all goodness just as lying is the key to all evil. It’s because of this, they say about one of the shaikhs that he asked one or another among his companions to repent, [saying]: “I’m not going to exhort you to anything other than to be truthful.”

So they thought about that and found that truthfulness gives rise to all goodness.

SIGNS OF GOOD CHARACTER

SIGNS OF GOOD CHARACTER

From the signs of a person's good manners in his dealings with the people is that he is someone easy to be around. His friends and relatives do not find it difficult to deal with him, nor does he make things hard on them. Instead, he brings happiness to their hearts as much as he can, within the confines of Allaah's legislation. This is a limit that must be observed, since there are some people who will not be pleased except with disobedience to Allaah, and Allaah's refuge is sought. It is not befitting that we oblige such people. However, to bring happiness to the people in your life, your friends and relatives, within the confines of the Islaamic Legislation is indeed good character.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"The best of you are the best to his family, and I am the best of you to my family."*

DON'T BE AMAZED BY YOUR ACTIONS!

DON'T BE AMAZED BY YOUR ACTIONS!

Allāh described His believing slaves as those who perform righteous actions, are obedient, and strive in worship while they fear their Lord with severe fear because they do not know if their actions will be accepted or not. Therefore, the person must not be amazed by his actions regardless of what he does, because if Allāh does not accept it, then it will have no benefit, even if his actions are numerous and great. If his actions are not accepted, they will be like scattered dust particles; thus, it will have been toil and hard work without benefit.
